It's time for a Marco Rubio thread?

Leaving aside his recent "Stepford Candidate" moment, what was/is Rubio's appeal? He's never demonstrated any particular depth of knowledge or insight that might inspire responsible conservatives, nor has he adopted the passionate thuggery that grabs the Cruz or Trump fans. And unlike Jeb Bush, who at least compiled a serviceable record as a two-term governor, he really can't to point to any significant successes. Why would he be near the top of anybody's list?

Wild speculation: someone suggested running a Hispanic with no baggage.

.............

In half an hour I can photoshop the same dog urinating on a Marco Rubio poster.

Yeah, that whole thing looks 'shopped to me. Is there anyplace in which a 4-foot by 5-foot photo of a candidate placed where people can reach it? No. Plus a poster with no name or text? The thing was created as a joke.

I can tell from the pixels...

He wasn't Bush, Christie is tainted, and Kascich hadn't yet been noticed. And what Ladewig said, "someone suggested running a[n] Hispanic with no baggage."

Republican Party: "Dear Hispanics and young people, please vote for us."

Rubio looks like the typical action movie character, "one of the boys", the one among the good ones who is killed first. And his "depth" while giving speeches and debating can't dispel this image.

One good thing about him is he knows how to enter the dais when the presenter names him. "S/He is the less bad among all [Republican] candidates" is the motto this year.

I think mostly it's "have to vote republican because Hillary is evil and at least he's not Trump or Cruz"

The dumb thing is, Clinton is so easily beatable. She has baggage a mile deep, and the fact that they can't find a slam dunk against her is a sign of a serious problem. She is far more beatable than Obama was in 2012, and that's when the republicans thought it was in the bag! Someone like Romney (or, even dare say, GWBush (like him, not him)) would win easily. Instead, they put up the craziest of crazies, who are questionable even against her.

My response when people complained about Obama being reelected was, ok, what does that say about the republican candidate? You think Obama was so bad, but you couldn't find anyone to beat him? No president with an unemployment of X% has ever been re-elected. So in response, you send in a scrub, who allows him to break the streak. Brilliant!

Defeating Clinton, you want to dig as deep into the "not Hillary" crowd as you can. The problem is, you don't do that by creating the "anyone but OurGuy" crowd. That just moved the line back over.

And that is an articulated thinking. Take a look to this example:

Christine Telge
Age: 48
Party: Republican
Profession: Works for a non-profit
From: Manchester, New Hampshire
Voting for: John Kasich
Made up her mind: “In the last hour”
Support for Trump, 1-10: 8
Support for Rest of Field: 1
Telge was going to vote Democratic but read about alleged anti-police remarks by Bernie and changed her mind. “I’m in for mood for change and Hillary’s part of the same problem: too many corporate dollars these days. I
like the way Kasich’s run his campaign. He’s been positive and a breath of fresh air.”

"I was going to vote for Bernie but I threw a tantrum, voted Kasich, but I like Trump very much". Any resemblance with Around the World in Eighty Days is mere coincidence.

Seems Rubio's pretty good at repeating the same pre-digested text over and over.

This is the one thing I don't understand about politicians. When they get into just repeating the memorized stump speech it's such a turn off. I've even had lunch with local politicians and you try to have a conversation and all they do is parrot their lines.
