80 Years of Subtle Sexism

You are taxed and toilet paper, and taxed on tampons. Two taxes. It's not judo anything, it's counting.

No, given that all products in that category are taxed, you seem to be claiming discrimination because there is a product in that category which is women only. I actually agree with you in practice that tampons should not be taxed ( along with items like toilet paper, deodorant, soap, shower gel and other hygiene necessities) but because they are necessities and therefore should be tax free whether they are used by either gender or both.

But...but...that's just...:boxedin:

Now you know why you filthy, disgusting and scary women were never allowed to cross water, or touch us clean men for half the month!

5% VAT? You should be paying a 100 times more to the man who invented the tampon and gave you your freedom to cross water and touch another human every day of the month!

Is what important?
That there is a thing that women buy, that generally men don't, and it's subject to 5% tax. I don't see why that is important. It's not like it's the only tax that impacts one gender more than the other.

I can agree with that.

With regard to taxes I think it depends a little on what else is taxed and why.

In the US, some states do exempt tampons, which seems like a good policy where other things deemed necessary for life, or at least for a good life, are exempted. In many places we do not pay tax on food, drugs, clothing and other things that it is presumed that everyone needs equally, as the more a thing is needed by rich and poor in equal amounts, the more regressive it is.

Here in Vermont, you pay a sales tax on tampons but not on groceries, agricultural and medical items, such as homeopathic nostrums, heating pads, condoms, adult diapers, closed caption machines, chocolate milk and Twinkies.

Until convenience/drug stores are no longer about a quarter filled with shelf after shelf after shelf of stuff women don't need but pay for anyway apparently just to prop up the stores, any claim of how much the need for one single product oppresses them is absurd.

Because men only buy exactly what they logically need. They'd never buy something otherwise. Women are too flighty and materialistic to understand taxes anyway.
