Continued: (Ed) Atheism Plus/Free Thought Blogs (FTB)

So, you want to talk about the content of Dawkins' "Dear Muslima" comment. I follow your link and am confronted with a list of links, rather than the content of the comment in question. So I click on the first link, which is the RationalWiki page for Elevatorgate then I CTRL-F to find the text, which I can then read.
Which happens to be an accurate cut and paste, as it turns out.

But that page doesn't cite the original source, meaning that I'm actually no better off reading the text there than I would be if I had tried to follow a dead link in your post from which you, yourself, had quoted the text.
They do cite their source, actually. It just isn't the original page, because that page is dead.

This is done more efficiently by quoting the relevant text.
Here we just have to disagree.

I've already mentioned that the first article on the google search for "deep rifts" that you posted doesn't actually mention Rebecca Watson. Give that that was the assertion you were trying to support, what am I supposed to do then?

I was not trying to support that assertion at all. What I was trying to do was provide a quick way to understand that "deep rifts" is a term of art for the particular atheist schism that started in the wake of Elevatorgate.

Wow, that thread actually sort of started out reasonable (I agree with them that Hensley had a huge amount of unwarranted hateful messages directed at her -- even though I dislike her for reasons having nothing to do with her PTSD). Then... pretty quickly devolved into the type of classic A+ thread I've come to know and love.

Looks like Smelody is out at CSI-DC. I heard donations were way down. I hope her PTSD gets better.

How ironic, given the "exchanges" between those in the forces, on the issue of PTSD, that she is replaced by a veteran.

A United States Marine Corps and Iraq War veteran, Ed holds a B.A. in International Politics and Anthropology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The speaker list seems especially dismal this year. They're obviously going for the SJW crowd. The problem they will eventually discover is that crowd, unlike the white males they despise, has no money.

Maybe they can charge the white males proportionally more?

Personally, I'd be willing to pay up to 600% of the usual cover charge.

Extra Extra !

GRETA CHRISTINA BANS OPHELIA BENSON !

Read all about it

in the comments section, post #9

Who blocked who now?

I wish I could retain the basic facts about these people. They appear to be important in skeptic circles, but I havent the foggiest who they are.

Anyone care to give a 20-ish word summary of each?

like, for example, PZ Myers could be:

"fat academic who was important once but then fell in with the crazies. Plus, people misspell his name all the time".

Christina is the lesbian who wrote a book called bending that "explores" what most people would call rape as a sexual activity and Benson is a TERF who got TERFshamed via a pile on from her fellow FtBloggers so she left to go be TERFY on her own terms.

They used to be friends, comrades in arms, but now it appears they hate each other due to ideological differences and are using their spat as clickbait.

Im with you so far, kinda. Rape fantasy or... actual rape?

and Benson is a TERF who got TERFshamed via a pile on from her fellow FtBloggers so she left to go be TERFY on her own terms.

What's TERF?

Please excuse me, Im on a drug called methotrexate at the moment, and it has transformed me into quite the tard.

It always boils down to $$$ doesn't it.

It's "blurring the lines of consent" stuff within the greater context of kink and in this day and age, it could easily be interpreted as rape porn.

A TERF is a Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist. I'm not up on the nuances between radical feminists and regular feminism but it's a term used to label feminists who don't think a person like Caitlin Jenner is a legitimate woman.

Most modern SJWs are all about the trans women are women stance however I'm kind of curious as to how many of them would actually date a trans woman.

When FtBlogger Richard Carrier ( the intellectual artillery of Atheism+) was trying to sell a dinner date with himself ( yes, you read that right ) and he was asked whether he would consider spending the evening with a trans woman he kind of waffled around with a statement about liking PIV sex. It was a no.

Isn't Carrier "bi", you know a whole 0.5 on the Kinsey scale? Which would mean he doesn't exclusively like PIV sex right? Or does the 0.5 mean he just likes kissing guys or something

Not to mention, I am not all that familiar with the details of sex reassignment surgery, but don't post-op trans women essentially have a vagina anyway?

Yup. A friend of mine is post-op. Good enough to fool a gynecologist for a short while apparently.

Ive seen photos - it's nice work.

Of course, the state of the art improves all the time, so at some point it will probably become indistinguishable from TRT.

No. They're not at all important in skeptic circles, except as a source of ridicule. They used to identify as skeptics, but it's apparent now that they never knew what the term meant.
