Dodged a bullet there. I'm amazed that after the second blast he doesn't back up faster.
I was amazed he didn't die, he seemed really close!

E-freaking-gad, it looks like it was nuked.
Who will pay for all the damage? The cost would be as big as the explosions.
True...but the destruction from a nuclear bomb blast isn't just from the blast, it's also from radiation. Someone fairly close to this blast could, conceivably, survive if they had adequate shelter; whereas someone close to a nuclear blast will be dead regardless.
Obviously the property owners are going to pay for the damage. Anybody who is found to be at fault and ordered to pay restitution will be almost automatically bankrupt, I think.
Bankrupt? Only if they are very lucky. It's China, anyone found to be at fault will likely be shot.

CCTV said:The amendment further increased fines for enterprises involved in serious workplace accidents from the maximum of 5 million yuan (810,000 U.S. dollars) proposed in its original draft to 20 million yuan.
[...]
Managers in charge of such enterprises who are found to have failed in their duty to ensure safety will also now be fined between 30 and 80 percent of their annual income corresponding to losses in the accidents.
This is a massive raise compared with the former law, under which managers faced fines between 20,000 yuan and 200,000 yuan.
The revised law states that managers responsible for "serious" and "extremely serious" accidents will be banned from serving as principals in enterprises in the same industry.
[...]
It identifies "extremely serious accidents" as those that kill more than 30 people, seriously injure 100, or result in over 100 million yuan in direct economic losses.
According to the revised law, enterprises responsible for accidents which lead to even greater losses than "extremely serious accidents" will face fines between 10 million yuan and 20 million yuan
My goodness, you really don't know how the Chinese gov't works, do you?No one will be shot because, you know, it's China: China imposes harsher punishment to ensure workplace safety (that was one year ago). Quotes:
So the harshest penalty in this recently revised Chinese law is bankruptcy and a ban from any senior job in the same industry.
On the radio earlier they said the warehouse stored Calcium Carbide which reacts explosively when exposed to water. The firefighters may have inadvertently caused the explosion when they sprayed water on the fire.

After Wednesday's blasts, fire crews were criticized for using water to douse flames which may have contributed to the blasts given the volatile nature of the chemicals involved.
Media have said such fire fighters in China, often only on two-year contracts, lack training as new recruits.
Here is a picture of how powerful the two nuclear blasts that hit Japan in WW2.

Now compare that with this disaster. I think they are not too much different in size.

I BLEVE you're right.
ftfyChina's going through their Wild West era when it comes to safe materials handling. They're making all the mistakes wemadeare still making
This is China. They'll be executed and their organs sold.Obviously the property owners are going to pay for the damage. Anybody who is found to be at fault and ordered to pay restitution will be almost automatically bankrupt, I think.
This is probably the clearest video of the explosions, starts with the first explosion at (0:18?), the second one takes place at (0:52?).
According to the note on youtube the person holding the camera and their friends were watching meteorites when it all started. Warning, lots of swearing.

As a side note, those explosions look like Hollywood, I'd predict that CT forums are buzzing with claims that that is exactly what they are.
Great video. Shows that the explosion was big. Many tons of TNT equivalent.
