Save your Dixie cups, the South shall rise again!

Well, he did first say that "would be confederates are dwindling," (I know how much such traitors love to fly their confederate flags.)Then the next sentence, he described how there are more American flags flying in Nashville and military bases. So I assumed that Confederate flags were dwindling, along with the Confederate movement. And that includes military bases.

If you include bumper stickers and t-shirts, yeah, you can see the Stars and Bars on military bases, but I've never seen one flying on an official function. (That don't mean it never happened, just that I didn't see it.)

If you include bumper stickers and T-shirts, I've seen it all over rural Alberta.

It would be funny to see a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff make an official visit to a military base in, say, Georgia, and the base commander forgot to order his men to take down the Stars and Bars.

What would happen, do you think? I would assume a dishonorable discharge (or a few) would be the order of the day. But it would still be funny to see. Almost like an old episode of MASH or something.

If it was ever possibly going to happen it would be fun, I grant you. I just keep wondering where that extra flag pole would be coming from.

I used to work with this idiot who was complaining once about the improper education his young daughter was getting at school. To wit, she had been taught that the North won the Civil War, when in (his) reality, it is still going on. He's a former marine, and my nickname for him was Marine One, or M1 for short.

If the war is still going on why did he join the Yankee Army?

Uh, the main reason so many US military installtations are in the south is simple:Weather. The milder climate in the south allows year round training and maneuvers.

True we will never fight anywhere there is winter again.

We need to fly the flags of our defeated enemies at military bases more often.

Not quite - but the costs of maintaining the infrastructure are lower where your bases are in areas where climatic extremes are not the norm. As an example, the CF regularly trains in the Arctic, but doesn't maintain large training bases there.

'bout the size of postage stamps now.

And in the Air Force, having more clear weather is a good thing in flight training.

Do we have cases of this actually happening in an official setting? Just wondering, because I haven't seen it. (I admit to being on foreign bases more often than those on CONUS.)

Some museums on US Military Bases display captured enemy flags and other items...the West Point Museum in particular..but the captured flags are not flown.

When I was in Italy we had three flag poles, US, Italian*, NATO. That's the official flags and the poles are put up for them. If anybody claims they saw a Confederate flag flying over a military base then another flag wasn't being flown when it should have been. That's a bit of a no-no.

*One time I watched Ricky Recruit hoist the colors in the morning and told him he had the Italian flag upside down. He nearly panicked. :D

Other good spots to see captured enemy standards are Les Invalides in Paris and the Army Museum in Vienna. Les Invalides is particularly impressive as they are concentrated in the Hall of Standards.

It is possible to fly two flags on one pole. Imagine the Stars and Bars above the US flag. And in Italy, right alongside the Italian and NATO flags.
