Should Illegal Immigrants get Welfare

That was what NAFTA was about, it has lifted these other countries up but we have lost jobs because of it. Our manufacturing base is suffering terribly.

Well, isn't that what investment is all about? Short-term pain for long-term gain?

I believe that there must be a way to help other countries without harming our selves as much as I think NAFTA did. Look at the Marshall Plan after WW2; it actually greatly strengthened the USA, Europe, and Japan, even after many countries lay in ruins. And we don't have a significant problem of large numbers of Germans or Japanese trying to enter the USA illegally now, do we?

Again, having a country that a lot of people see as a better place to live than their own creates many practical problems. But I am proud of it for this very reason, too. Not many people try to become Syrian citizens right now.

Illegal immigrants can vote?

Come on guys, these issues have been around for decades, you should know the arguments of both sides.

The dems want to give them amnesty (citizenship) for the votes they believe they will get.

I'm amazed to watch liberals argue all over the field, you recognize that we can't have open borders, you also understand as a legal alien how unfair it is that others stole what you worked so hard to get.

How hard did you work to become a U.S. citizen?

By the way. I'm against so much cheap labor, it holds our wages down.

And our costs.

I thought that the issue was giving them legal residence (no vote), not citizenship (vote). Am I wrong? Or are you going to propose a slippery slope argument?

Cone on guys, the Reps want to frighten USA citizens to vote for Reps. Hey, I like this simplification- it is fun!

I'll address both of your posts, yes I can get my birth certificate in about 30 seconds.

When it comes to lines, yes they stepped in front of others to get where they are.

Finally, I don't think you can be satisfied, you'll always be worried about the one or two people who fall through the cracks.

You aren't addressing my questions.

1. What line are you discussing? Is there a line such that people can legally enter the USA to pick the fruit on the farms around where I live? Maybe the people now there snuck in from their country, but they neither took the coders' jobs nor were they ever allowed into any sort of legal line.

2. I am glad that you can get your birth certificate in 30 secs, but many citizens can not. Do you carry it with you and would you be willing to have this mandated by the government? If so, than would you be willing to instead carry a more convenient national ID card that would be a lot harder to counterfeit than a birth certificate? I ask this honestly- maybe we can work out the beginnings of a functional plan.

Okay- how will we identify people as illegal? Universal identity cards for all citizens and legal immigrants that will need to be carried at all times is the only way I can imagine. And once we work this question out, then do we raid certain businesses, all businesses, certain housing, all housing, or just stop people on the street at random? And of course, who will judge if someone is legal; a court or a police officer? Where do we put the illegals once caught before their plane or bus leaves (it will be a lot of people)?

In fact, shouldn't we really start the whole process with your idea of a Constitutional amendment to declare that children of illegals born in the USA are not citizens? Otherwise, we will have a bunch of underage citizens in the USA after their parents are deported to other countries.

No, you are right- it is pretty simple. Simple to say; a lot harder to do.

Social security number

Gosh, there is probably a whole porn genre of sci-fi sex ... pardon me while I Google

Trust me, don't! There are some very disturbing things on the net. And some very odd (to me) interests. In particular, don't Google dinosaur p… Oh, never mind.

Seriously? Under the most ambitious "amnesty" it would still be decades before these people became citizens. If ever. No one is going to put them at the front of the citizenship queue. It would piss off too many Greeks, Chinese, Arabs, etc. In practice, the best these folks will do is provisional legal status.

However, their U.S. citizen relatives might cast gratitude votes to candidates who don't come across as vile haters.

Social security number

Short answer to a long question, but let's start there. Do you agree that everyone should get a unique social security number from the government (this is now only required of those who want to work). This would mean that all citizens and legal immigrants have a universal ID number assigned to them by the government. Okay by me. If you are also okay with that, how do you propose that an arrested individual will prove that they are the owner of a particular "social security" number? I ask because I lost my little cardboard social security card (no picture) a long time ago.

vile haters.

lol

Being a country of laws means vile haters.

You have to think of these things with common sense. Once people have a legal status, the dems will start a victim campaign of how terrible it is for people who live here legally cannot vote.

If a person gets caught up in the system who is an actual citizen, they should have the same documents I do.

What about homeless people who may have had their ID and documents lost or stolen, and have no way to prove that they're citizens?

Should someone who is a citizen by birth, whose parents were also citizens by birth, be deported to a foreign country simply on the suspicion that they're an illegal immigrant?

And what if you catch someone that you're sure is an illegal immigrant, but has no identification at all, and won't tell you their real name or country of origin?

How can you deport them if you don't know who they are or which country the need to be deported to?

If your ancestors came on the Mayflower, then you are in real trouble; I don't think the Native Americans granted citizenship to immigrants.

It's a moot point because at that time Native Americans weren't US citizens either*. Who granted Native Americans US citizenship? And who granted those people US citizenship?

*Because the United States didn't exist.

If they don't have a social security number, and it can be demonstrated that they aren't a citizen then deport them

Its pretty simple

How do you find them? What due process do you give to make sure you're not deporting a citizen? Where do you hold them? How long do you hold them? How do you physically transport them to their home countries? What healht care do you give them while you're holding them? How long do you hold minors? What do you do if the home country doesn't want them? What do you do if the home country uses physical force to keep them from returning? How much money is too much to spend per illegal alien? If your plan is unworkable, how is it still valid?

I suppose government will have to figure it out.

Do you have confidence in your government's decision-making ability?
