Merged Bigfoot follies

What excuse does Mr. Donn From Tejas give for Meldrum and Bindernagel cozying up to Standing? After all, our favorite report reader claims to have been wise to the Sylvanic squatter from the get-go. As if that were some sort of achievement.

Thanks for the support. I don't think DWA is a "bad guy" - he is obviously intelligent, knowledgeable, and very passionate about Bigfoot. I just found it hard to follow his logic at times (but that could be my error)...

I found one of his "signature quotes" to be intriguing:

What I often tell people is that if you immerse yourself in the field, you'd be blown away by the amount of evidence. They just get pieces of the puzzle. There's a literal ton of eyewitness accounts, foot casts, hair samples and the like. It's a situation where from a mathematical standpoint, it's highly probable that these creatures exist in North America, but it's also statistically impossible that nothing is out there. It's a weird juxtaposition of highly unlikely realities, but one of them has to be right. - Ken Gerhard

Does anyone here know anything (non-cynical) about "immersion"?

I guess because I've dealt with DWA over at Cryptomundo years ago, and a little at BFF, he and I have sort of a familiarity that makes it impossible for me to dislike him.

Once at CM he got so animated replying to a post of mine that I mentally pictured him bouncing up and down in his chair. I told him he needed to lay off the Mountain Dew when posting.

About the "immersion" thing, the answer is simple: Just accept mainstream Bigfootology (no Dyer or Ketchum or etc.) and you will, well, accept mainstream Bigfootology.

You might re-examine this assertion after taking a gander at his posts today on the 2015 State of Sasquatch Science debacle. He (along with running partner WSA) continue to insist that the only way to ever document footie is by specifically searching for it. As if for eons, hunters, trappers, thrill seekers, trained field biologists, etc., would possibly overlook a 9-ft, 600-lb monkey. That's not an example of knowledgeable, sorry. In fact, it's an example of the most rockheaded, stubborn stupidity.

This is a response from Ohiobill to "The state of Bigfoot 2015" or something like that over at BFF.
One of the greatest summations I've ever read!

"How to explain the state of bigfootery today? Bigfoot is a personal experience that doesn't need to rely on evidence collection (or even common sense for those who believe solely on the basis of sighting reports). Whatever you experience is, it's all you need, your participation is all that matters. If you show up you should get a ribbon regardless of how you place.

For those few who might still care about results it's become impossible to justify the lack of evidence without special pleading. Don't worry, there are special pleadings aplenty and we can find one for whatever situation is encountered. Ever increasing numbers of game cams mean nothing because squatch avoid cameras unless it's a filmed encounter you personally find compelling. Increasing reports in urban areas are true because people don't make mistakes or lie, there's no need to look for evidence. This works because squatch don't leave evidence - no bones, no hair, no scat, no DNA. If you record some audio similar to a fox or owl it's obviously squatch because we know squatch are in the area from the anonymous sighting reports. Squatch are rare and hard to find due to their population being kept in check by dogmen so don't feel bad that no hard evidence is found. Except those areas where they are everywhere like hab sites and research areas where 10+ years of research can't yield a clear photo, hair, or scat because the squatch are super stealthy apes or all knowing forest shamans or invisible. It's all good, just keep posting your encounters and impressions because Science is most likely going to recognize Sasquatch any day now due to the overwhelming weight of the reports."

SASQUATCH 2015 - ALL IS WELL, KEEP ON KEEPING ON!

And of course DWA had to respond with his usually blatherings!

So, I thought I'd put the classic Bigfoot encounter story of William Roe here for critical examination. He claimed that his encounter happened in 1955 when working on a highway in British Columbia, about eighty miles west of Jasper, Alberta, Canada. Then in 1957, he wrote a detailed account of his encounter and signed it as an affidavit.

IMO, there are plenty of red flags that this is a fabricated sighting report (a hoax), and is not a misidentification of any kind. What are your thoughts?

From Bigfoot Encounters website...

I, W. Roe of the City of Edmonton, in the province of Alberta make oath and say, (1) That the exhibit A attached to this, my affidavit, is absolutely true and correct in all details.

Sworn before me in the City of Edmonton, Province of Alberta, this 26th day of August, A.D. 1957.

EXHIBIT A.

Ever since I was a small boy back in the forest of Michigan, I have studied the lives and habits of wild animals. Later, when I supported my family in Northern Alberta by hunting and trapping, I spent many hours just observing the wild things. They fascinated me. But the most incredible experience I ever had with a wild creature occurred near a little town called Tete Jaune Cache, British Columbia, about eighty miles west of Jasper, Alberta.

I had been working on the highway near Tete Jaune Cache for about two years. In October, 1955, I decided to climb five miles up Mica Mountain to an old deserted mine, just for something to do. I came in sight of the mine about three o'clock in the afternoon after an easy climb. I had just come out of a patch of low brush into a clearing when I saw what I thought was a grizzly bear, in the bush on the other side. I had shot a grizzly near that spot the year before. This one was only about 75 yards away, but I didn't want to shoot it, for I had no way of getting it out. So I sat down on a small rock and watched, my rifle in my hands.

I could see part of the animal's head and the top of one shoulder. A moment later it raised up and stepped out into the opening. Then I saw it was not a bear.

This, to the best of my recollection, is what the creature looked like and how it acted as it came across the clearing directly toward me. My first impression was of a huge man, about six feet tall, almost three feet wide, and probably weighing somewhere near three hundred pounds. It was covered from head to foot with dark brown silver-tipped hair. But as it came closer I saw by its breasts that it was female.

And yet, its torso was not curved like a female's. Its broad frame was straight from shoulder to hip. Its arms were much thicker than a man's arms, and longer, reaching almost to its knees. Its feet were broader proportionately than a man's, about five inches wide at the front and tapering to much thinner heels. When it walked it placed the heel of its foot down first, and I could see the grey-brown skin or hide on the soles of its feet.

It came to the edge of the bush I was hiding in, within twenty feet of me, and squatted down on its haunches. Reaching out its hands it pulled the branches of bushes toward it and stripped the leaves with its teeth. Its lips curled flexibly around the leaves as it ate. I was close enough to see that its teeth were white and even.

The shape of this creature's head somewhat resembled a Negro's. The head was higher at the back than at the front. The nose was broad and flat. The lips and chin protruded farther than its nose. But the hair that covered it, leaving bare only the parts of its face around the mouth, nose and ears, made it resemble an animal as much as a human. None of this hair, even on the back of its head, was longer than an inch, and that on its face was much shorter. Its ears were shaped like a human's ears. But its eyes were small and black like a bear's. And its neck also was unhuman. Thicker and shorter than any man's I had ever seen.

As I watched this creature, I wondered if some movie company was making a film at this place and that what I saw was an actor, made up to look partly human and partly animal. But as I observed it more, I decided it would be impossible to fake such a specimen. Anyway, I learned later there was no such company near that area. Nor, in fact, did anyone live up Mica Mountain, according to the people who lived in Tete Jaune Cache.

Finally the wild thing must have got my scent, for it looked directly at me through an opening in the brush. A look of amazement crossed its face. It looked so comical at the moment I had to grin. Still in a crouched position, it backed up three or four short steps, then straightened up to its full height and started to walk rapidly back the way it had come. For a moment it watched me over its shoulder as it went, not exactly afraid, but as though it wanted no contact with anything strange.

The thought came to me that if I shot it, I would possibly have a specimen of great interest to scientists the world over. I had heard stories of the Sasquatch, the giant hairy Indians that live in the legends of British Columbia Indians, and also many claim, are still in fact alive today. Maybe this was a Sasquatch, I told myself.

I levelled my rifle. The creature was still walking rapidly away, again turning its head to look in my direction. I lowered the rifle. Although I have called the creature "it", I felt now that it was a human being and I knew I would never forgive myself if I killed it.

Just as it came to the other patch of brush it threw its head back and made a peculiar noise that seemed to be half laugh and half language, and which I can only describe as a kind of a whinny. Then it walked from the small brush into a stand of lodgepole pine.

I stepped out into the opening and looked across a small ridge just beyond the pine to see if I could see it again. It came out on the ridge a couple of hundred yards away from me, tipped its head back again, and again emitted the only sound I had heard it make, but what this half- laugh, half-language was meant to convey, I do not know. It disappeared then, and I never saw it again.

I wanted to find out if it lived on vegetation entirely or ate meat as well, so I went down and looked for signs. I found it in five different places, and although I examined it thoroughly, could find no hair or shells of bugs or insects. So I believe it was strictly a vegetarian.

I found one place where it had slept for a couple of nights under a tree. Now, the nights were cool up the mountain, at this time of year especially, and yet it had not used a fire. I found no sign that it possessed even the simplest of tools. Nor a single companion while in this place.

Whether this was a Sasquatch I do not know. It will always remain a mystery to me, unless another one is found.

I hereby declare the above statement to be in every part true, to the best of my powers of observation and recollection.

(Signed) William Roe

On Roe’s tall tale...

It has, IMHO, clear signs of fabrication or at least some embellishment of the whole stuff. It starts saying how awesome Roe is – a tough skilled outdoorsman. He declares it all to be true, signs it, etc. So what? Countless “I swear it” signed documents are lies or not precisely what they claim to be. In case of doubt, check your local newspaper economy, politics or police section.

Now, I must concede Roe may actually believed he experienced something. There are one too many mechanisms that can generate false memories / experiences and he may as well have been through one of them. How much the original material has been… uhm… Posteriorly enhanced, its impossible to know.

So it all boils down to something between a complete fabrication and a false memory or experience with an unknown amount of “improvement”. Yes, footers will be angry. “You are calling the guy a liar!” “Coward, he can’t defend himself!” “You said he’s crazy!” “Close-minded denialist”. Let them be. That’s all they can do, since they can’t provide any solid reason to give even a small bit of credit to Roe’s tale. Heck, that’s valid for ALL bigfoot tales, from Roe to Good n’ Plenties including PGF, habituations, mid-tarsal breaks, vocalizations, footprints, alleged DNA, thermals, whatever.

Its also interesting to see how Roe’s tall tale contains seeds of some of the key elements from bigfootery.

This put, was I the only one to sense a not-so-veiled touch of racism at his text?

Bigfoot on trail camera. Is he fighting a black panther, or something?

Clearly this bigfoot has kidnapped a cow from Chick-fil-A!

Put some sunglasses on the cows head...thought that might help just in case your not seeing it

Reading the full account again, I share your interpretation. It's way too detailed and close-range to have been a misidentification.

It is indeed laden with old chestnuts - there's an abandoned mine, the narrow heels (common in yeti lore of the 1950s), the "old Indian legends" angle . . .

For context...

Anyone knows why and how Roe made the affidavit?

I mean, he just woke up one day and decided to do it?
Got tired of the fellows at the local pub not buying his tale?
Decided to "come out of the closet" after something happened, like bigfoot tales starting to appear?
Was somehow incentived by some pioneering footer?
Had to somehow back his tale?

Those are all legitimate investigative questions. The answers may be lost to history, if ever there were any such questions and answers in the first place. Bigfootery does not properly examine its witnesses. The only exception to that is when a witness is universally accepted as being a hoaxer - then they get a thorough examination by Bigfooters in a style that is normally only seen when Bigfoot skeptics examine Bigfoot witnesses.

If you research the Roe story you will find that Bigfootery has made some changes in the retelling, most often the changes are made to increase the believability of the story and to try to buttress the credibility of Roe himself. But that kind of thing is common when modern Bigfooters retell the "Classic Bigfoot Era" stories.

Here is a great big red flag...

This tells you that Roe was already a Bigfooter before he had his claimed sighting in 1955. He uses the term "Sasquatch", if for no other reason than because the term "Bigfoot" would not be invented until 1958 which was the year after he wrote the affidavit.

Maybe this was a Sasquatch, I told myself.
What the hell else did you think you were possibly seeing and then describing? You knew exactly what you were doing when you invented your Sasquatch sighting story!

Well, that settled down the questions for once and for all. Bigfoots are blurry pixelated beasts with areas blackned by M$Paint (or some similar app).

Or even better when the creativity goes the other way... strange how the Brown Cow thermal morphed into a perfect Bigfoot ;)
I asked repeatedly how this was done and who was responsible.... They finally got in a huff and took their toys and left....SURPRISE!!!
