School shooting near Seattle.

Just write them another letter. That'll teach 'em.
You don't understand. I speak with some WA legislators face to face; much better than a letter. If Representative Jinkins decides to drop another Safe Storage Act bill then I'll support it. I plan on seeing her again in January 2015 to discuss another bill and will bring up the Safe Storage Act. I do want to know why the bill was killed. The NRA supported a bill that would deny guns to spouse abusers (without a conviction), I don't think they had any objections to the safe storage either.

Unlike some others on this forum I don't "show them" by running away.

We know he felt entitled to murder women who wouldn't date him.

Don't be ridiclous. What we actually know is that he was motivated to murder this one woman who rejected him. "Woman", singular; not "women". Unless, of course, you have some evidence that we're not aware of that this kid has murdered other women who have refused to date him.

I'm sure he would have had he not already killed himself before getting around to it.

Someone decided that the motive was misogyny and Corsair rightfully called out that ridiculous statement.

I am not the only one to have raised that point.

If you don't think it is misogynist to murder women who won't date you, I am not sure there is very much I can do for you.

Except that, as some reports seem to indicate, he also killed one of his cousins in the shooting. Apparently because the girl chose that cousin over him. Given this, since he killed his cousin as a result of this seeming relationship triangle, does that also make this event a case of misandry as well as misogyny? So he hated both men and women?

"But do they call me Jaylen the Bridge-Builder? Noooo!"

PC gone mad, it is!

The father only killed one of his daughters for honour. That isn't misogny, he would have had to kill ALL his daughters to be a misogynist.

Great argument BTW.

Not.

A misogynist is someone who hates women. If you hated women, why would you want to date one?

Yes, misogynists date women.

Your definition is a bit off.

a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.

And killing a single member of a particular group is a great argument for declaring the killer an obvious hater of all members of that particular group? Yeah, right...

As Corsair 115 pointed out, you'd also have to declare him a misandrist. Or maybe he just has an irrational hatred for other high school students? Do we have a word for that?

When the killing is tied directly to a bigoted cultural ideal, then you're dealing with a bigotry-motivated killing. Dur. You don't have to consciously hate any and all members of a group in order to be bigoted against them.

Do you also think it is unfair to say that those who lynch black men for, say, smiling at a white woman are racist? Or do you think they're off the hook as long as they have a black friend?

Do you think Ed Gein was misogynist? He held his late mother in famously high regard, so he couldn't have been, right?

While they might be heart broken, they have clearly demonstrated their refusal to "come together" with anyone in the WA gun owning community to craft a bill that has a good chance of passage.
As far as I can tell, there is a problem here of both sides refusing to give any ground to come towards a compromise. The gun owners fight any efforts to "restrict their freedom" tooth and nail, and the gun controllers refuse to consider their opponents' point of view. The definition of compromise is that both sides have to give up something in order to, as you say, "come together", yet neither side appears willing to do that.

It's kind of tragic.

To control them? To conquer them? To debase them? Exactly what do you think the PUA movement is all about? Do they not try and "date" lots of women?

Yes, misogynists date women.

Seems pretty clear to me.

How will it be enforced?
Will Washington gun owners be forfeiting their 4th Amendment Rights for this Safe Storage Act?

Gun owners have compromised over and over again. When does the compromising end? Whenever we give a little, they come back for more.

The bill would not curtail any fourth amendment rights like the most recent WA AWB bill would have.

Here is the text of the dead bill; http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2013-14/Pdf/Bills/House Bills/1676.pdf
Except as otherwise provided in this section, a person is guilty of reckless endangerment if the person stores or leaves a loaded firearm in a location where the person knows, or reasonably should know, that a child is likely to gain access, and a child obtains possession of the loaded firearm.
There are exceptions for unlawful entry by the child, storing the gun in a safe or with a trigger lock, and other lawful uses by children.

In other words if a child got a hold of your gun because it was not stored properly you could be in trouble.

Can you describe an instance wherein a man murders a woman and it is not ( in your opinion ) an act of misogyny?

I-594 will make shooting a friend's gun at a rifle range for a few minutes illegal unless a background check is obtained; usually at a cost of $20-$100. It will also cost the same amount for the borrower to hand it back to the lender.

If WA gun owners are willing to compromise, what should they get in return? Most types of guns are legal in WA, perhaps we should have our right to register short barreled shotguns and machine guns restored?
