Presidential Primaries 2016

Chris Christie repeatedly saying things like ...

“I’m thinking about it. It is an enormous decision to make not only for me, but my family. Probably by the end of this year or the beginning of next I’ll decide.”
... is not reason to unstrike him. I mention it only to show how much he likes to dance in the spotlight.

I agree. C. Christie will be hugely missed. He, more than anyone, buys into the legend of the Great and Powerful Christie. I was always amazed at how he said out loud that the greatest crime committed by his disposed-of underlings is that they had lied to Him. I wonder what kind of rectum accommodates the passage of such a large head.

Given that: it's not a presidential election year, Wisconsin reduced the times and days available to vote, Wisconsin recently upheld voter ID and said it can be implemented for this fall election, and that in the polls Burke and Walker are very close I'm giving 90% odds Walker wins reelection.

In other words I wouldn't strike him from your list just yet.

I had struck him for legal troubles, but that situation hasn't panned out as a game-changer. I wouldn't strike him ahead of time just for potentially losing an election. Next time I update, I'll be unstriking S. Walker (unless something else happens).

Good news for C. Christie on the legal front:

Report: Feds have found no evidence that Christie ordered Bridgegate

Here is the original report, but there's also an auto-play video that will launch if you click this link:
After 9 Months, Federal Probe of GWB Closure Finds No Link to Christie, Federal Sources Say
Thursday, Sep 18, 2014 • Updated at 8:31 PM EDT

The U.S. Justice Department investigation into New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s role in “Bridgegate” has thus far uncovered no information he either knew in advance or directed the closure of traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge, federal officials tell NBC 4 New York.

I move to unstrike for the time being. This seems significant to me.

The crowd has spoken. C. Christie comes out of the doghouse today (along with S. Walker). Personally, I think that he's sill in for a world of hurt, but he seems actually to be gearing up his campaign machinery. Welcome home, oh blustery one.

That's 3 unstrikes in quick succession in the GOP ranks. This race is shaping up to be a real roller coaster!

On balance, S. Palin's latest foray into hillbilly antics moves me to strike her finally. Though I'm sure there's so much more in the way of public amusement to come from that quarter, I fear it will never be in the form of a preznit campaign.

Inside baseball, straight ahead:

I'm happy to say that another recently un-struck mentionable, W. "M." Romney, has had just a little more hot air blown into his trial balloon for yet another grab at the brass ring.

A few weeks ago, it was Hugh Hewitt's radio show that provided the 2012 loser a platform to drop some non-committal clues to his intentions. Now for the next foray in what is probably a coordinated effort to test the reaction from the politisphere -- This time it's Byron York at The Washington Examiner who is flying Romney's sorta-maybe colors. I'll offer one quote, but you can read the who article if you have 2 minutes with absolutely nothing better to do. Trust me, there's nothing at all of any more substance than this:

Romney is talking with advisers, consulting with his family, keeping a close eye on the emerging '16 Republican field, and carefully weighing the pluses and minuses of another run.

I think it's a scam. But, who knows?

Wow, I sure wish these people didn't feel that they have to wait until after this November to outright declare their intentions. Today's trail balloon comes from the gaffable B. Carson, former brain surgeon and current religious wacko sorta-politician.

Again, the forum is Hugh Hewitt's radio show, who asked if he'll run.

Unless the American people indicate in November that they like big government intervention in every part of their lives, I think the likelihood is strong.

Take that to mean that if the Senate stays in Dem hands, he won't, but otherwise... So get this, America! Vote Republican now, or you won't have the pleasure of this gent's silly antics for the following 14 months between when he decides and when he drops out. Think carefully, now.

Thanks for the heads-up, SezMe. It's amazing the vast number of aspiring contenders in the GOP ranks this cycle. I think it's unprecedented.

Indeed, welcome to former Hewlett-Packard CEO and failed Senate candidate Carley Fiorina. As usual with this brand of far-fetched contender with no distinct reason to run or call to action, that leaves the possibility of a book tour disguised as campaign or teasing campaign-in-waiting, or some sort of delusion. The problem for this one is, unlike past jokebag candidates like M. Bachmann or H. Cain, C. Fiorina has no personality.

This is getting to astounding levels. There are LOTS of Republicans kinda sorta interested in running for President this cycle.

Our latest entrant is Senator Lindsay Graham from South Carolina, in an interview with The Weekly Standard. His line of thought should be quite familiar by now...

“If I get through my general election, if nobody steps up in the presidential mix, if nobody’s out there talking—me and McCain have been talking—I may just jump in to get to make these arguments,” Graham said.

He also dings M. Rubio as too young and not ready and not stand-uppy enough to the wing nuts.

Poor Jon Stewart is going to have a case of the vapors, I do declare.

Yes, he does some wicked mockery of L. Graham.

I just read that quote again from him, and realized that he stated in stark terms what so many Republicans now use presidential campaigns for: I may just jump in to get to make these arguments

I know it's nothing new, and that's exactly what Bernie Sanders is gearing up for on the Dem side. But the sheer numbers of GOPers touting/teasing a run for publicity and point-making purposes is amazing.

God's gonna have a lot of choices for his GOP favorite. Well he punt and tell several candidates that they're The OneTM like he did in '12?

Wait.
I want a do-over on the Palin quote
“For all of the thousands of years of recorded human history, about 5,000 years, there is no instance of any culture, nation or tribe ever having as the established standard for marriage anything other than between man and woman. - S. Palin

No nation ever?
She must be making that claim based on a no-true-Scotland fallacy.

Argument from antiquity. A fallacy.

I don't know if we should call this intensive trial ballooning or straight-up letting us know he's running, but son of J. Bush, George P. Bush, told ABC News that it's more than likely that his father will be running for president.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/polit...ush-more-than-likely-jeb-will-run-197647.html

We're now officially taking predictions for: First GOP candidate to earn a dot in this thread. It's a little tricky because dots are doled out at my discretion, but I will try to make the criteria as objective as possible. a) Declare officially or announce the formation of an exploratory committee -- automatic dot. b) Foregoing the above, candidate or credible representative states that candidate will run -- subjectively awarded dot, considering specific circumstances.

Winner(s) will be rewarded with ballyhooed recognition of their stunning prognostication skills.

On the Dem side, there is a somewhat different landscape in view, so a different kind of contest is deserved. Thinking it over...

Hmm. Prolly one of the lower-profile candidates will be the first to "officially" announce. Obvious choices like to play the will-she-or-won't-she game for a while. Hillary already has a political action committee up and running, and it has already raised more money than most candidates will ever raise. But she's not going to be the first to announce officially.

Possible dot material here:

Mike Huckabee rebuilds political team with eye on another presidential run

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who turned his stunning victory in the 2008 Iowa caucuses into a thriving talk-show career, is reconnecting with activists and enlisting staff to position himself in a growing field of potential Republican presidential candidates.

This week, Huckabee is leading more than 100 pastors and GOP insiders from early primary states on a 10-day overseas trip with stops in Poland and England.

Huckabee’s newly formed nonprofit advocacy group, America Takes Action, has begun to serve as an employment perch for his political team, recently bringing on a number of experienced campaign operatives.

Advisers are already scouting real estate in Little Rock for a possible presidential campaign headquarters.

Huckabee is scheduled to spend part of this month holding private meetings with powerful GOP financiers in Las Vegas, New York and California, gauging their interest in being bundlers for his possible campaign and asking for pledges of five-to-six-figure donations to his aligned organizations. And he is planning two strategy sessions next month, in Little Rock and Destin, Fla., near his new Gulf Coast home, to discuss timing, potential staffing and an opening pitch to voters.

In January, Huckabee will publish “God, Guns, Grits and Gravy,” his latest manifesto on politics and culture.

Looks like all the elements are there to indicate he's going to throw his hat in the ring.
