Seven dead in drive by California shootings

Why didn't he use a kitchen knife?
Um, he did kill half of his total with a knife.

No, gun nuts, I'm not joyful about this. It's a tragedy, a horrible tragedy and I wish it would never have happened. But as long as you guys want to shoot guns, this will continue. I'm sure you'll all sleep well tonight.
You must feel really foolish now that you know he started off by stabbing 3 people to death with a knife. Or not, it's not like being wrong affects zealots at all.

You all keep saying this. It's kind of disingenuous, isn't it? He shot a total of 14 people, 3 of whom died. The police found 48 full magazines for his three pistols in the car. When he began the "rampage" part of his killing spree, it's pretty clear what his weapon of choice was. While I don't want this to be a gun thread as I've already said a few times, I'm getting weary of seeing this bizarre misrepresentation about "half his victims were killed with a knife" repeated over and over.

Once again the streets are littered with the blood and bodies of martyrs willing to give up their lives so patriots can own guns.

:USA: God Bless America! :USA:

You don't think he could have done worse with a few pipe bombs? Hell the guy was suicidal he could just have walked in with a big old bag of them and let gunpowder do it's thing.

psychos are inventive, just have a browse at the types of weapons prisoners have made, you think a person with access to a hardware store couldn't do the same?

Did any of this whole thing actually take place on the UC campus?

I keep seeing it referred to (in headlines) as a 'UCSB shooting' or a 'campus shooting' but when I actually read the article, it looks like none of it happened on campus.

Is 'campus shooting' just so irresistibly sexy to newsfolk that they are intentionally misusing it here, or what?

This case is insane. I always thought so many of these shooting or terrorist attacks stemmed from men not being able to get laid.... But I never seen a guy outright admit it.

The other thing is... he's driving a beamer.... how can you not get laid? You drive one of them where I live and we might have to lock up our wives.

It's not hard to find a hooker if nothing else. Hollywood is full of them.

Or what if he had access to a swimming pool store! There's no telling how many would have died had he thrown swimming pools into a sorority house!

Lucky he was limited to guns I guess. :USA:God Bless America!:USA:

Care to point me towards the gay incels? Because I have never heard of them.

Agreed. I could put an ad on Craigslist right now and have a gay man at my door in under an hour, ready to have sex with me. I could do that every day of the year. Anyone who thinks I could do the same with women is delusional.
But I guess it's politically correct to get offended about someone speaking the truth about the variations in sexual behavior between the sexes.

Super micro focus on one issue fail.

Nope, none of it on campus. It's very inaccurate to call it a UCSB shooting, although the area is populated in large part by UCSB students.

The knife seems to have the higher kill ratio here.

Thanks. I found a map on the LA Times website that confirmed this.

I also read this guy's long-ass rant about how awful things are (were) for him. Sounds like he went through a horrible experience that the rest of us call "life".

What really weirded me out, besides the fact that he liked The Phantom Menace, was the strange lottery fixation he went through. What was that all about? Sounded like he got plenty of cash from relatives; he obviously wasn't hurting for money if he could buy Armani gear and drop almost two grand on guns on a whim.

This guy should have been placed in a sack with a rock and thrown into the creek at birth. He seems to have served no useful purpose whatsoever. If you think this is harsh, then read his rant. He was a bad guy.

Apparently, his parents had him evaluated after seeing the videos, but he acted normal during the evaluations, so nothing was done.

I don't see any reason to read "mental illness" into this dude's actions unless you believe that all murderers are de facto mentally ill.
AIUI police did the evaluations; the parents should have called mental health practicioners. ;)

Remember where you are at WildCat. Knife murders do not support the anti-gun agenda so they don't count on this forum.

It reminds me of an article I read reference the mass stabbing that happened in Calgary Alberta a few weeks ago. Five people were killed and it was a 100% fatality rate using only a knife, yet the writer still managed to assign partial blame on the American NRA.

Go figure...

I think that some of the problem with this character may have something to do with the medicine he was taking for his AS. Ritalin is one such medicine given to some AS patients and it can cause a feeling of 'smartness'.

Ritalin is a stimulant prescribed for attention deficit disorders to aid focus. Think coffee, but a little stronger.

Does it also cause a loss of empathy?

No.

College kids take Ritalin to study better and get better grades. Ritalin has been used by quite a few mass killers to date.

It's also been used by millions of perfectly non-murderous schoolchildren.

Can't figure out if that is a 'yes' or a 'no'.

I wasn't asking "some". I was asking you.

To be fair, your question was silly and out of the context of the discussion.

How about the post which prompted my question?
It appears that he deliberately set out to (and did) kill several random and anonymous strangers; that seems to be reason enough to read "mental illness" into his actions.

Do you believe that all premeditated murders involve mental illness?

Go ahead and "be fair" about that one. Was it silly and out of the context of the discussion?

It didn't seem to garner a similar reaction from you. My question makes just as much sense within the context of the discussion.

Why are you peeved by mine, and not the one which prompted it? There doesn't seem to be much of a difference.

Within the context of the discussion, that is.

Interesting. As someone that has never been able to have sex I wonder just how I ended up "damaged." I think it is possible to never have the opportunity to have sex and not turn out to be some sort of monster. But that's just me.

Sure, that's true. It all depends upon what your circumstances are. I didn't have sex until 25, which is 3 years older than this guy, and I never went on any killing sprees or even dreamed of such a thing. But something in his environment made him like this. Do you think that he just popped out of the womb as a psycho killer?

There are people who are handicapped or disfigured (physically or mentally), which completely removes them from the pool of people who will ever have sex. These people have needs like the rest of us. Why have we, as a society, decided that these needs should not be met? If a woman wants to sell sex, and a man wants to buy, why is this illegal?

What does any of that have to do with this guy? He was resentful that nobody wanted to have sex with him. Having to pay for sex wouldn't have made him feel any better about himself.
