Lewinsky, Clinton, Redux

I'm not voting for a 70 year old man or woman to run the country. We need VIGOR.

What we need is somebody who will actually end drone strikes and finally close Guantanamo. Vigor would be nice, but it's not a requirement.

It is in my book. The only comfort I took in the results of 2008 was that Guantanamo would be closed, but sadly another delusion. No one reaches 70 without losing a few steps. In spite of advertising to the contrary, it is not the new 50 or even 60. And public figures like my Senator Harry Reid start their decline in full view of camera. It's so sad.

I am hoping old Rutgers U. will now invite Monica to be their speaker and pray she brings visual aids to help advance the grads education.
Laura Ingram is another brilliant, amazing, talented woman. Too good for Rutgers U.

Grads'. It's a possessive and takes an apostrophe.

Good to see you got the spelling of "aids" right this time. See? You can learn.

The closing/non closing of Gitmo has nothing to do with the age and vigor of the current president. What are you talking about?

"My Harry Reid"? Did you buy him at an auction?

I am talking about Obama promise to close Gitmo which, of course, didn't happen. Harry is a Senator from Nevada. I voted for Harry. Sorry to see him decline in front of TV cameras and the country. Old age ain't for sissies or the Presidency.

Well, we don't have spell check or editors here so I think the grammar police can rest easy. No time for that nonsense.

You seem to have plenty of time for other nonsense.

Clear speaking and writing is a waste of time for you? Because you have so much important stuff you need to say?

I'm sure Rutgers has a course on grammar and spelling so you can catch up. :D

Which has what to do with your insistence that the country needs a younger and vigorous President? Are you saying Obama is a secret octogenarian, and that's why Gitmo is still open?

I know who Harry is, don't care who you voted for, and Harry isn't running for President.

I believe his Kenyan birth certificate lists 1929 as the year of birth.

Yet another example of someone hearing old Keynesian as old Kenyan no doubt.

Where will it all end !

With a hot bed of 100 students and 39 teachers scared of free speech? Wouldn't go near old Rutgers U. Not even for Snookie.

I always wondered what the reaction would have been if he'd just admitted it proudly?

"Mr President! Did you have sex with that young woman?!"
"You bet I did! Whew, did I sex her! It was hot and disgusting! Next question?"
"...Nothing further."
"You sure? I could go into detail. You see, I took my-"
"Nothing further!! Please!"
"-and that's why we had to replace the carpet at taxpayor expense."

That's pretty much the same argument Ryan uses to the president in Clear and Present Danger (released prior to the Lewinsky affair, so you'd have thought Bill and his advisors might have heeded the lesson): "Yes, that crook is one of my closest friends". Tell the truth and the media have nowhere to go.

Lewinsky never claimed Clinton assaulted her. You are thinking of another case involving Clinton, I believe...and how do you know he lied under oath? Were you there when the alleged assault happened?

I don't believe Clinton was ever charged with sexual assault (he was certainly accused of it (as well as of murdering Vince Foster and other even more implausible crimes by some of the lunatic fringe). He did apparently lie under oath about the Lewinsky affair in a civil suit for sexual harassment filed by Paula Jones. The impeachment wasn't about sex, it was about lying about sex, but, really it was about sex.

As I recall it all started with a witchhunt into the Whitewater thing. When that failed to provide the horrible scandal the GOP wanted it morphed into what it eventually became: a bunch of testimony on oral sex and semen stains on dresses in regards to a consensual relationship.

There was also a civil suit filed by Paula Jones, an Arkansas state employee whom Clinton allegedly indecently propositioned and exposed his genitalia to while he was governor of Arkansas. In the course of that suit, Clinton allegedly lied about the Lewinsky affair under oath (whether the Lewinsky affair had any relevance to the Paula Jones case is questionable, at best).

ETA: Ken Starr did investigate the "perjury" about Lewinsky, as his mission morphed from "Investigate the Whitewater real estate deal" to "just pin something, anything at all, on Clinton".

I am amazed at how many are ignorant of recent history.
Sad, in a lot of ways, how much stupid this thread has evoked.

TM and Spindrift, thank you for adding sense to this otherwise nonsensical discourse.

This was actually the problem with the whole special prosecutor/independent counsel mandate. It was so open-ended and limitless that virtually anything that came to the special prosecutor's attention was fair game.

BTW, despite your scare quotes around perjury, it is quite obvious that Bill Clinton did commit perjury about Lewinsky. In fact, he surrendered his license to practice law over that very issue.
