Kind of. Margins are low at the retail level, but behind the scenes you have a mess of anti-competitive practices. Famously, dominant buyers make demands on suppliers and wholesalers that smaller chains or independent stores can't. New York State is currently in the process of trying end this kind of price discrimination...I guess we'll see how that goes.

But the Robinson-Patman Act bars this at the Federal level. Reagan stopped enforcing the act in the 1980s and administrations afterwords continued ignoring the law. I guess there are just too many laws on the books to keep up with these days.

I'm seeing every day positive actions by Mamdani, and the people of NYC are very happy with him.

His policies are firmly aimed at lifting the bottom, and appear to be working. A new opinion poll shows him at well in positive territory, in spite of NYPost trying to demonise him daily.
