We all know that Jeb Bush is noted for his outreach to the Hispanic community. Indeed, he married a Mexican-born woman and his kids are mixed, But as the New Yorker reminds us, "ethnic identities are not exactly elective". Lets see if the same people who got outraged over Elizabeth Warren claiming some Native American ancestry get similarly frothed up by Brother Bush's decision to abandon his New England roots.

"My mistake! Don’t think I’ve fooled anyone! RT @JebBushJr LOL - come on dad, think you checked the wrong box #HonoraryLatino"

Don't care. Anyone with the last name of Bush at this point does not even get a remote consideration in my book. No, he's not his brother, but they most likely have the same financial interests and will thus be controlled by the same sort of political interests. You might as well make it the 1930s and change his last name to Rockefeller. The basic problem would be the same.

I couldn't care less whether he's less racist towards Mexicans than most of the GOP or not (his brother fit that description too anyway)... he's not an option in my book. Of course, I have no Mexican heritage whatsoever, so maybe my opinion doesn't count.

Can't do that; it's a tu quoque! And we know one thing for certain: the tu quoque cops don't put up with that.

If he did anything similar to what Elizabeth Warren did, then he's similarly an ass for doing it, and deserves similar censure.

Let's see if the people who casually dismissed the censure of Elizabeth Warren are similarly casual about what they assume to be a similar act taken by Jeb Bush.

Can't really say I give two ****s about either.

Why is this important?

Why should they?
Do you honestly believe it wasn't just marked in error?
What could be possibly be gained by doing it on purpose?
He never advertised the fact it was filled out that way (most likely because he was not aware of it). I think I read it was filled out in 2009.
To me this would be like someone believing President Obama actually thought their were 57 states.

I feel the same about the name "Clinton".

I wouldn't entirely disagree. I would much rather have someone without the notable allusion to a royal family sort of thing step up. I consider any semblance of such to be problematic. With the Bushes, it's the third case though... even Bush Sr. had notable political ties from his father.

Although they aren't exactly identical per se, it's sort of like not having term limits at all.

However, I don't think we'd agree about how absolutely horrible you think the only president in recent history that actually managed to leave office with a surplus rather than a deficit was. I also don't give a single crap (not even a half-day's load on a twoaday) about his sex life. He could have screwed goats regularly for all I care. I cared about his performance as Commander in Chief of the military (given that I was IN the military when he was first elected, and he gave us a pretty decent raise which had been sort of needed for a long time, given that my starting pay was only $735 per month when I first enlisted in 1990 as an E-1) and his other duties as President.

Oh god, let's not have a choice between Clinton and Bush in 2016.

I know it's crazy talk, but I'd like to see a candidate make it to the general election who hasn't had an income higher than $60,000 a year.

Lets. I don't think there is any way the American people are dumb enough to make the wrong choice.

Hmmm, let's see... nope, I don't care.

Didn't care about Warren, don't care about this.

Ah, but what if it was Ted Cruz?

...Don't care!

If/when that happens, everyone who argues that we HAVE to vote for ____ because we don't want _____ to win gets the laughing dog.

Frankly, I don't care about Bush's "mistake" either. I'm mostly interested in seeing if the same people who screamed about Warren remain mysteriously silent about Jeb.

The difference is that Elizabeth Warren could easily really believe that she is (or actually be) part Native American. Apparently that's what she was told by her family.

How exactly could Jeb Bush believe he's Hispanic? Because he married a Hispanic women and speaks Spanish?

I'm afraid it might just be Jill Stein I vote for again (yeah, I didn't vote for Obama in the last one... a protest against the renewal of the entire Patriot Act, if you must know) if it's between Clinton and Bush (or Clinton and ANY Republican likely to run, really). I think Stein is a little TOO far out in left field, but I don't think I'd vote for Hillary. Strangely, I would vote for her husband if he were allowed to run again though. That may seem strange to some people, but Hillary always sort of rubbed me the wrong way, and I don't consider the marital association to be an indication of being somehow as good at president-ing. I just have an unexplained dislike for her, I guess... and it's not that she's a woman (no hint of a similar problem with Warren, for instance).

Being from Kansas, it isn't very likely to matter who I vote for anyway... the electoral votes will automatically be Republican whether I like it or not, so don't blame me for Bush Jr. (not that I didn't vote for Gore anyway) when Nader also ran, and the Supreme Court found a bad excuse to anoint a president before the recount process was even finished.

I also consider Hillary as someone more likely to get us into another useless and expensive war than some others on the left... the right is already clamoring for one, and I just don't see her resisting the push as well as some others would. She did vote for the Iraq war.

That is one difference. Another difference is his was almost certainly a mistake.
