Windows/7 and Windows/XP

Why are you still running VS 6?

I work for a very small family owned company. This company has been losing money for many years and I have not had a pay increase in so long that I would be embarrassed to mention it here. The owners place no value on anything but sales and manufacturing. Administration is a just barely necessary evil. Every dollar spent is a dollar out of their pockets. We have a working system created with VS6. What is the compelling argument for them to spend the money to upgrade? I don't think "because the people on the internet make fun of me" is going to cut it.

I do not see a major problem. Install a few test machines with Windows 7, then see if you can get your software to run on those machines. Once you have done that then you know you can roll out Windows 7 to everyone. This should be standard procedure for any software upgrade.

I would not depend on forum members to give you 100% accurate information. Test any information given here before using it.

This a real problem for our school district, we use a program called QuickReads by Pearson Learning. (Very cool and effective)

Currently the IT director wants to switch over to Win7, for some very good reasons. And the high schools are switching at this time.

However this program which is very important for the grade schools, it not usable by Win7 , even if you use the virtual XP mode. Pearson of course at this time does not support Win7 and hasn't said when they will.

Of course it will be at least two more years before they convert the grade schools anyway, the district doesn't have the resources to purchase RAM for all the machines that Win7 needs.
