Trump says the US/EU "trade deficit" is unfair and then tanks the value of the Dollar by 10% vs. the Euro. Only a genius could make a 7D chess move like that. Prove me wrong!

One problem with excessive tariffs is it promotes smuggling and crime. You create a system where significant profits can be made by smuggling in goods and avoiding tariffs. The UK has very high tariffs on tobacco, the result is a massive tobacco smuggling industry, this then links with other criminal enterprises including drug smuggling. "Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy," Trump wrote on social media.
A deadline for countries to agree a tariff deal with the US had been set for 9 July but US officials now say they will begin on 1 August.

All these threats of American tariffs is such an own-goal. We know this, US importers know this, US retailers know this, and US purchasers are FAFO'ing this right now.
