So one of the few countries the USA has a trade surplus with... essentially went back to where things were before "liberation day"... what a "victory".
Actually Congress gave the president full authority to set tariffs so long as he says its an "emergency".stonekettle
Now that there's white smoke and Catholics have a new Pope, notice that Trump's big huge giant massive comprehensive totally amazing trade deal with the UK is completely lacking in any details whatsoever? Notice how there is NO legislation, of any kind? Literally no bill before either house -- which there would have to be for any actual trade deal? Notice that? There's smoke all right, and Trump is going to be blowing it up our asses until our colons are beef jerky.

Would need to break a filibuster to repeal.Actually Congress gave the president full authority to set tariffs so long as he says its an "emergency".
Its for Congress to say if it would require a filibuster or not. But that'd be the "nuclear" option I think. Unlikely unless they really think we're heading into Great Depression territory, ie they think they will be voted out of office.Would need to break a filibuster to repeal.
Starmer giving details later.

Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY. THE FIRST OF MANY!!!
Former Republican Congressman Justin Amash shared Lutnick’s remarks and added, “So…Americans had to pay a 10% tax before the “deal,” and Americans have to pay a 10% tax after the “deal.” We have some of the most economically illiterate people in the world in charge of trade policy.”
Believable.Trump said that like none of his followers have ever heard of the UK.
Hey MAGAts! Your favorite president, ME!, has a GREAT DEAL for you!! It's NOTHING! NO CHANGE!! I have made the best deal ever with a famous country who I can't name just now as their name has slipped my tiny mind, but IT'S A GREAT DEAL! THE BEST EVER! FROM ME, YOUR FAVORITE PRESIDENT! Not like those woke leftist losers who signed that stupid and loser USMCA agreement. Who needs that! Not just economically illiterate.Former Republican Congressman Justin Amash shared Lutnick’s remarks and added, “So…Americans had to pay a 10% tax before the “deal,” and Americans have to pay a 10% tax after the “deal.” We have some of the most economically illiterate people in the world in charge of trade policy.”
By what measure was there an emergency, other than the emergency Trump has created by using this emergency power?Actually Congress gave the president full authority to set tariffs so long as he says its an "emergency".
"Willing to go back to the original deal" is the long way of saying "not change anything", yeah?I guess it is a kind of triumph that a trading partner is willing to go back to the original deal after being treated this way.
Trump said that like none of his followers have ever heard of the UK.
"People don't know that."He himself doesn't know what it is. Remember that rambling speech from his first term in which he talked about how some people call it the United Kingdom, some people call it England, and some people call it Great Britain, not realizing that those names refer to three different things.
Well the new deal sees the UK cut two thirds off their average tariff from 2024 while the US triples theirs.I guess it is a kind of triumph that a trading partner is willing to go back to the original deal after being treated this way.
Most definitely it will, yes. Will tariffs make America great?
