Depends on what kind of debate it is. Clinton is lightyears ahead of Trump intellectually, but Trump doesn't make intellectual arguments. And he's had experience dealing with world class debaters, like Cruz.

Trump's ego is so massive, I don't think he thinks its possible to lose to Clinton. There must be something else going on.

Trump did well against the 7 dwarfs, but this ain't that. Trump is NOT stupid but his depth of understanding of the issues is weak. I don't think that was exposed very well in those debates. And debating a woman is a much trickier assignment. Everyone knows Trump is a bully but I really don't think that tactic plays well against a woman.

I'll say this, I've never been as worried about the outcome of an election and still believed my candidate was going to win as I am in this election. I also want to watch the people. I can't believe that I am totally overestimating the American electorate.I can't believe that a majority of them will fall for Donald's act.

Well, the betting odds on Trump didn't move at all, so there's a little bit of hope. Trump remains at 30%.

Not even considering what HRC has already dealt with in the public eye, but any female who attended public high school has a thicker skin than the Cheeto. Have you seen Mean Girls? "god, Karen, you're so stupid".

No question, you don't have to convince me of that.

Maybe, I am wrong, but I believe people, right or wrong are protective of women and don't react well to a man bullying a woman. Even if he's really not and that is just the perception it won't endear him to voters.

As I remember, eight years ago Joe Biden went easy on that crazy idiot Sarah Palin because they didn't want him to be seen as bullying her.

Biden didn't need to take shots at Palin, She did enough damage all by herself.

He just had to resist "piling on"

Trump will show up for the debates. He can't pass up the attention. He barged on stage on day one of his convention because he is completely incapable of turning down the spotlight even for a moment.

The only possible reason for him not to appear is if he very publicly tries to start his own debate, with blackjack, and hookers, and a "no girls allowed" sign.

I Jesus hope the filly sucker gets on stage against Hillary, or her stand-in, or the janitor from out in the hall. "Here's your ass, what's your hurry."

But I also hope his basic cowardice chills his resolve and he punks out. Either way, Forrest Trump takes a pasting. Could so easily happen to a better guy.

I'd suggest if his campaign starts trying to quietly ease him out of it (or he does it loudly), the best response is for everyone to push the message that the debate is not for or about him, but for and about the good of the country.

I don't see how he can get out of them. When's the last time there wasn't at least 1 televised Presidential debate? 1956 maybe?

I just found out that It was 72. There was the JFK Nixon debates in 1960 and then there wasn't another General Election debate until 76 and we've had them every cycle since.

His "game", I'm pretty sure, is not to get out of the debates but to get something in the way of an advantage. Remember that he and Carson teamed up to bully their way through to concessions in the GOP debates. As is obvious in the past week, he's still running in the primaries. He thinks he can get something out of them. Maybe he wants to come in on a sedan chair, or he wants the front ten rows for his former wives and girlfriends, or that his supporters get to carry signs,.... whatever it is, it's a negotiating ploy.

He's also appealing to the red meat and beer crowd. "I know it's the most important election of the last fifty years, but... but... but... The NFL, man. C'mon, we can't miss an NFL game." That sort of low-information voter is his base, after all. Not only is he trying to curry "regular guy" points with football fans, he's concerned that his fans are precisely the types to pass on the debates, where he thinks he'll do yuge results, and watch farkin' football.

So it seems he and the RNC are already starting to come up with excuses for why he might not show up. If he won't show that means he is a complete coward, period. He won't face Hillary in one on one in debates yet we're supposed to trust him to take on the Chinese? Please.

The solution is as simple.

Announce that if one candidate does not show up the other one will have sixty minutes of air time to say whatever he or she wants.

People, this is the lowering-expectations game. The more reluctant he seems to engage Hillary in a debate, the lower the bar he has to clear for him to seem successful. The goal is to make it so that if he completes at least 3 sentences (total) during the debates, it's a huge win.

I think he will show for at least 2, if not all of the debates, as I don't think they are going to matter all that much. Who is still undecided at this point? My guess is that it is mostly people who don't pay much attention to politics and may or may not even watch the debates. Of those that do watch, I think it will be more about demeanor and personality than about the actual responses to the questions. Trump will be on his best behavior while spouting canned responses that vaguely pertain to the subject of the question.

He's going to fall back to his it's rigged whine. He'll complain that Gary Johnson and Jill Stein have to be let in even if neither meets the 15% threshold. Crowding the stage so he has to talk less.
