Donald Trump says the fall debate schedule is "unacceptable," raising the specter that he may try to skip them.

In a tweet on Friday night, Trump incorrectly said that Hillary Clinton and the Democrats are "trying to rig the debates."

In fact, the fall debate schedule was determined almost a year ago by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, a private group made up of both Republicans and Democrats.

RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer invoked criticism of the commission on CNN Saturday morning, saying "The entire system needs to be relooked at."

The commission responded to Trump on Saturday by saying that it "announced the number, dates and sites for the 2016 general election debates in September 2015."

"The CPD did not consult with any political parties or campaigns in making these decisions," the group said.

So it seems he and the RNC are already starting to come up with excuses for why he might not show up. If he won't show that means he is a complete coward, period. He won't face Hillary in one on one in debates yet we're supposed to trust him to take on the Chinese? Please.

I noted in another thread that Trump will know this would probably get the biggest viewing audience of any show in history. In that sense, it's hard to refuse. It would be a tricky calculation to figure if backing out would be better than giving a bad performance. Considering the stakes and the visibility, he will have to go through with it. Especially since by the time Sept 26 rolls around, I expect Trump to be behind in the numbers and will need something for a big bump.

So now the orange piece of garbage is lying about the NFL sending him a letter about the dates of the debates.

I could very well see Trump skipping the debates and doing another veterans "fundraiser".

But, I think his kids are a little more sensible, and they would tell him it would be political suicide, so I expect him to show up.

But at the same time his kids probably know that he can't beat Hillary in a debate.

An inverse option, not in the thread poll, is to skip the first one and see how it effects his numbers. If he takes a big hit for not attending, or Hillary is ahead in the polls and he needs to do something, he would attend the second debate and re-calibrate from there.

Yeah, I suppose that's possible. Didn't think of it.

I suppose that Trump forgot that people could record the debates and watch Football live or vice versa. SMH.

Depends on what kind of debate it is. Clinton is lightyears ahead of Trump intellectually, but Trump doesn't make intellectual arguments. And he's had experience dealing with world class debaters, like Cruz.

Trump's ego is so massive, I don't think he thinks its possible to lose to Clinton. There must be something else going on.

Trump has the best ego. Believe me! If Dr. Freud were alive today, he would probably write a book about Trump.

I wouldn't call those GOP clown shows debates. Certainly it isn't the same as a one on one debate. There were as many as ten clowns in them!

I find it totally believable that he's too narcissistic and stupid to believe that he could lose to Hillary in a debate. But at the same time it looks like he is laying the groundwork for excuses to not show. So I'm not sure.

Good point. Trump never did debate when it was just him and Kasich and Cruz, so the one-on-one setting would be new to him. You can't just make a 15 second emotional appeal in a one-on-one debate. Maybe he knows he wouldn't do well in that kind of format.

It does look that way. I don't know what Trump's game is on this one.
