Why vegans are simply better people

Says the guy who ate meat into his 50's.

Are you claiming here that you eliminated, or significantly mitigated, several decades of meat-consumption related cardiovascular disease and artery blockage after just a few months of being on a vegan diet?

How awesome would that be? You can eat anything you want for 50 years of your life then become a vegan for a few months, erase whatever damage you've done, then go back to eating delicious bacon. Just make sure you repeat 3 months of veganism every 50 years and you'll be fine.

There's a mounting body of evidence that indicates he is generally right and you are generally wrong, and your anecdotes inform us of virtually nothing.

Right about what? That he's better than everyone who eats meat because he was able to give it up after 50 years? What about his anecdotes about how much better he feels and how happy he makes his wife now? Are saying that his anecdotes are informative?

Whatever parts of his inappropriate rant you agree with doesn't change the fact that the general idea is that he's morally and physically superior to us lowly meat-eaters. What mountain of evidence supports this?

EDIT: And please, goddamnit don't tell me about the China Study.

That is the moot point. There are many other factors involved in heart disease.

This thread is such an ego trip for the OP.

Anyway I eat a primarily meat based diet. Very high in fat, very low in carbs. No grains.

Why? Same reason reverbison doesn't eat meat. Because I think it's healthier based on the limited (nutritional science sucks bigtime, if you don't believe me start looking at it in detail and come away crying) information available.

The part where we both agree is that the SAD (standard american diet) is crapola. I much more blame the sugar and empty carbs than the meat though.

Food quality is also a big deal to me.

Anyway I don't expect this thread to become anything productive...

Any opinion on the French paradox?

Generally right when he says that we are all meat guzzling fatties with heart disease?
I don't know what the French paradox is, and obviously I don't know the weight/health of posters.

So that said, allow me to revise my comment: I think reverebison is a lot more right about diet and health than he's been given credit for.

''The French Paradox refers to the fact that while the French eat some of the richest foods, they do not experience the weight issues of Americans. One of the most popular theories has been that most of the day’s food intake happens early, with meals becoming smaller as the day progresses. It all comes down to serving sizes according to recent research on the French Paradox.

Still, considering typical French fare -- croissants, brie, pastries – its quite astonishing to see the statistic that just 7 percent of French adults are obese.''

Reverbvision oversimplifies the issue.

I'm amused that you (and others) respond with these bits, as if they are vaguely informative about diet and health, and as if my carefully qualified comments are extendable to every idiotic thing reverebison has posted.

None that I'm aware of. See post 1529.

But as to the subject matter I'm actually addressing, see post 1314.

I am also a meat-eater who is not overweight or unhealthy. The benefits of exercise. You should do a little research on that topic now.

Yep, a good exercise regimen lowers your bp, your cholesterol, and your stress.
