Why settlements?

As a bit of rhetoric, I would have immediately responded "The last time England agreed to territorial demands to a murderous, non-free, non-democratic thug, what happened and what did the world learn? And why will it turn out differently ultimately this time?"

Not that I agree, but the rhetoric was ripe for the plucking. I would have loved to see the "evil" BBC reporter's face. >(
Hehe Peres is an old fox and he is fearless. When he heard the question his face showed some pain but immediately he replied:" If we're ever going to see Peace I don't care who will be the one who will sign it.I have fought for Peace all my life, if Sharon brings it, so be it!".

This damned dog of mine appears every 15 minutes, trying to get my hands off the keyboard and pat her on the head. Without any doubt I am feeding an antisemitic dog...

If you're a cynic like Cleopatra, you believe they did it so they could finally get rid of the Jews Hitler didn't kill, if you are not so cynical, it was an attempt to remedy the crimes of Hitler.

Come-on that's too easy for me. UN does nothing without the approval of the security council. Hitler went" over the top" . I mean, in Europe they have been hating Jews for thousands of years but that was too much, so give them a state to save us from the whine and get them off our backs the same time. If we have them here, we will have to return the properties the Christians stole during the War. Too complicated. Send them in Middle East to keep the Arabs busy.

The UN never actually made the proclamation. IMHO, partly because the proposed borders were never going to work.
And as we all know those borders would be the first in human history that wouldn't work.

So, your theory is that throwing more cultures together and enforcing democracy will solve problems caused by cultural diversity to begin with? I say enforcing because democracy doesn't just happen by magic.
I planned to develop my theory in a new thread under the title " Does religion slow us down--Part Deux". Making religion irrelevant is the only way for modern culturally diversed societies to survive but I won't open all my cards now.

I have posted before that I find the demand for Democracy very vague because Democracy was created by a specific social group, in a tiny country, where "demos" had a meaning. Even today, different societies have different grasp of this term and I find this very normal. Democracy is nothing but a word that describes the levels of power among individuals and the index of balance of the power between citizens and governments.

This is the reason why I choose to use the word " Human and Civil Rights" instead of Democracy. I am firm believer in the protection of Human Rights. In societies where human rights are well protected ,we can talk about applied Democracy.

States hate Human Rights even the most Democratic States hate to be scrutinized for their application of Human Rights because the later are nothing but an a priori limitation to the power of the State.

Do I talk like a Eurocommunist? :D

I'm curious. Why is it OK to cleanse the Gaze strip of a certain ethnic group, but on the other hand Isreal must become an open society if peace is to prevail?
Good question! Try to answer it and see the problems the concept of a " Jewish State" pose. :) The Gaza stip was cleansed by Israeli citizens not by an ethnic group. This is the diplomatic answer and I will stick to that.

Granted, these are "illegal" settlers, but what if we Californians suddenly decided to remove all Mexicans who settled here illegally to begin with? Certain parts of Southern California would suddenly seem to be barely populated for starters. :D
I am not well informed about this issue this is the reason I avoid to post an opinion everytime it comes up to threads.

I have only one question.

Who will pay for this political crime?( As a crime I name the establishment of the settlements and not the withdrawl)

Perhaps all those who died as a result during the past 38 years?

Are you expecting some kind of justice answer here?
