Reading this and other Daniel threads it wouldn't suprise me if he doesn't believe in air resistance either.

I don't think he actually believes any of it, or at least doesn't particularly care. He's just trying to get the maximum attention possible from the grown-ups for minimum effort expended. If I thought he was actually serious, I might engage with him, but first I'd have to pick out one or two pieces of wrongness from the mess of gibberish to start. Since I think he's just trolling, though, he'll have to get in line behind the other intentional troll (Malbec) and functional troll (Kyoon).

Or to make an analogy, have you ever been swimming and noticed the pressure increases with depth? You can't pretend that doesn't happen. Why do you think that is different than the atmosphere?

Okay... So some pf the posts about why a lecture on Quantum Physics might not mean what Daniel thinks, was cut. I am going to flag this post to mods incase it is too far from the topic. But I intend to give a quick summary of why saying "Newtons theories don't work for really small things" is not the same as saying they just plain don't work, and certainly not why they don't work for big old planets.

I admit, I am one of the stupidest posters here, so by all means if I make a mistake others are welcome to heckle.

So quantum literally means an indivisibly small particle. (And not "magic science", if nothing else you should now understand a Bond movie title.) It refers to itty bitty particles like photons and electrons.

Why do these need their own branch of physics?

They do weird things. They exist in two places at once. Or they can be more than one thing. A photon of light can act like a particle or a waveform (that complicated word means something in the form of a wave, such as an emission on the electromagnetic scale in the visible light spectrum). So a photon particle, fired at a board with two splits in, can pass through both at the same time.

So yes, a lecturer will say things like you have to shoot down Newtonian ideas. Because quantum scale events don't follow those rules.

But big things do. Just as Newtonian rules wont work on tiny little particles, the quantum rules wont work on planets. The Earth will exist in one place, and have to pass through one slit or the other. It wont pass through both at once.

This why there is such trouble looking for a unified theory. If we took the "Shooting down Newtonian physics" literally in all fields of physics, then we would be in real trouble.

But what we can observe is little things acting one way, big things acting another, and a Nobel Prize for whoever writes the theory that meshes the two into one single dynamic.

So, when we watch those lectures linked to before, and watch the whole video for context we know what the guy is saying. If we look at ever smaller scales, we fall further and further from conventional physics. But that does not undo everything we know about big things. It does not mean all our experiments stop working. It just means we know diddy particles have their own rules.

Let's assume you're correct and entropy prevents a non vacuum system from being attached to a vacuum. This means that either : there is no atmosphere on the earth, or that the atmosphere continues into what we term 'space'

Given that I am breathing quite happily now, I assume that there is an atmosphere on earth, so the only remaining option is that the atmosphere continues into space. So why do astronauts, cosmonauts, taikonauts and pilots of high altitude planes need breathing apparatus?
