Split From Why is Prince William considered news?

We loves our royalty here in the States. Here's a video of Lindsay Lohan:

Fascinating stuff, her life.

Actually, she does still have power but chooses not to exert it.

General gossip amoungst the armed forces is that if HMTQ forces a constituional crisis, we back her. After all, we swear allegiance to her, not the government (apart from the wierd navy types - who are trusted - God help us all :eye-poppi ).

Admittedly she would need to have a damned good reason to go that far!

The queen doesn't have any real power. In any western democracy the backing of the army is far less important than the backing of the population, and the population supports democracy over dictatorship.

Bloody hell, the Australian (Labor!) Prime Minister just opened Question Time with a speech about what a happy event this was for Australia. Sickening.

All Governments will take an opportunity to divert Question Time from its purpose.

For my part I still see the Windsors as usurpers from the rightful line of Stewarts.

Having said that I was alarmed to read Julie Birchill

Waity Katie's nine-year war of attrition has finally been won; ever since her parents proved themselves willing and able to slaughter a beautiful animal in cold blood, it was only a matter of time till the Munsters asked them to join forces.
??????????

Diana, the bride at every royal funeral and the mourner at every royal wedding, was present in more than just the engagement ring which sat so heavily on the hand of this young woman who must now walk a mile in her bloodied shoes, on a road leading who knows where.
??????????
Unlike the cute but dorky teenage Diana, Kate is fantastically well-groomed and gorgeously put-together; if only she'd aimed a little higher, she'd have made a top-flight air stewardess.

Errrrr, is that such a desirable thing? I would have thought a lifetime on British Air playing hostess to a bunch of Douglas Reynholm type people would be most people's idea of hell on earth.

Is there a reason why CNN is playing a 10 minute with Prince William? Why is he so important? I know most people in the US could give a hoot including myself! Any idea?

It's an easy reporting job and a distraction from more important events.

"There's only one thing I want to know about the publicly subsidised second in line accident of birth wastrel marrying his broodmare: will we get the day off work?"

- Chicken Yoghurt

I lol'd.

Me too, mostly because he is only "publicly subsidised" because in 1760 a deal was done where the Royal family was given a Civil List payment in return for the Government getting the income from the royal estates, now worth near enough to £300 million a year.

William should kill Charles and his grandmother and claim the throne all to himself.

Now that would be news!

Tell you what America, you can stop hearing about what the royals are up to when we stop hearing about your endless election cycle.

It doesn't? What's the point then?

Because the King or Queen of Great Britian and Commonweath rule at the pleasure of the people. It would be highly unlikely a person guilty of multiple murders in modern society would be accepted by the people, and the current Queen's greatest fear would be realised. She would be Lizzie the last

Didn't Lizzie have Di killed?

:duck:

I take it your irony meter is broken (or are you American, theirs are always broken?)

My comment 'Admittedly she would need to have a damned good reason to go that far!' should have indicated that it would need to be a popular move.

The 'what if' scenario has come up in conversation three times, each time the reaction has been unanimious, we swore oaths to HMTQ, not some oaf who thinks his expenses are more important than his service to his country.

Here's an odd scenario. If HRH is queen of Australia and the United Kingdom and Canada simultaneously but independently, I wonder if there is any law that states that Charles could be king of Australia while William is king of Canada? I know no one wants this and it really doesn't matter but I think it is possibly legal. I think it is interesting that all the Commonwealth members accept the king on offer rather than say "we want that one". Apathy?

Prince Billy isn't news. His pretty girlfriend is. Between them, they have managed to keep Britain's recent invasion of Luxembourg off the front pages.
You didn't even know about it, now did you?

a disgusting glorification of Monarchies. No other Dictators family get celebrated like this, whats wrong with the people? Don't they read history books ?

Which dictator(s) are you talking about? We haven't had one of those, if ever, since at least a certain meeting in a meadow, though reminders have had to be given.

No deal. Our 24/7/52/decade/centennial/millennium election cycle is more important than galactic rotation. Get a clue, dude.
