I'm a liberal. I admit it. Heck I'm proud of it. In fact those online poll things often say I'm actually a socialist...and Dean from Supernatural. Which is so bogus since I'm clearly Sam!

So of course when I see that far right wing blog Charismanews has posted a list of all the things I hate about America...well I can't but help read it. Surely it will be refreshing to see all the things I hate spelled out in list form.

Well I was sure in for a surprise. Turns out I hate things like "success" and "cheeseburgers" which I could have sworn I liked. In fact it turns out I hate "The American People" as a whole which surely also I was unaware of.

Actually here it is and I color coded it. Bold for things I actually like, highlights for things I think are largely good but with some need for fixing and a strike through for the things I actually hate. I hope the mods will allow this since I'm commenting on the whole of the thing.

By the way I'm a bit confused about the inclusion of Israel and Netanyhu.

Fellow liberals, how did the list reflect your hatreds?

You don't like Johnny Cash? I love Johnny Cash.

I don't dislike miners, loggers or the coal industry. These are value-neutral industries in and of themselves, IMO. Potentially good, potentially bad.

Baseball and apple pie are not on the list as far as I can tell ...

ETA: I don't know if I'm a fellow liberal. In some ways I'm conservative, but not in a way that aligns with most current Republican politicians.
ETA 2: I'm for "limited government," as opposed to unlimited government.

"The American People"? That depends on which people. As a whole I don't think I'm any fonder of the American People than I am other populations. "Bottled Water"? Every country I've ever been in has bottled water. In fact it caught on late here, IMO. Muscle cars I kind of like, as a memento of a former error. I don't like Big Trucks, nor SUVs that block my view of traffic, but if I had a kid I probably would prefer to see them in an SUV than a Yaris. In the U.S. it's almost self-defense.

Apparently, you can't be liberal and also enjoy the theme song from "9 to 5". It's news to me.

Why do you actually hate the American flag, limited government and home schooling?

The flag is just a flag; is it possible you actually mean those people who wrap themselves ion the flag and burn the constitution?

So when you hate limited government, does this mean you want more government?

What do you have against homeschooling?

Not liking the vBulletin port of the Donnie Darko/Heathers crossover fanfic so far. Looks buggy, and some things appear to have been lost in translation.

Great thread and post. I'm something of a liberal myself. I despise the simpleton whackos who attempt to pigeon hole me. I like America as much as any truck driving beer swilling redneck. Especially since that is a description of me.

So let me do exactly the same.

 1. The U.S. Constitution
 2. Liberty
 3. Freedom
 4. Success
 5. Big Trucks Love mine.
 6. Capitalism
 7. Free Markets
 8. Wealthy People
 9. Economic Prosperity
 10. The Rule of Law
 11. Traditional Values
 12. The American Flag I'd rather honor principles than a piece of cloth.
 13. The Founding Fathers
 14. Guns Not since 5 of my friends were shot and killed
 15. Limited Government Overly simplistic. Everyone wants limited government. We just want different limits.
 16. Religious Freedom
 17. Homeschooling
 18. Private Schools
 19. Christian Schools
 20. Entrepreneurs
 21. Ronald Reagan
 22. Donald Trump
 23. Mike Pence
 24. Country Music
 25. Rush Limbaugh A loudmouth whore.
 26. The Tea Party
 27. Lower Taxes
 28. Old-Fashioned Light Bulbs....Prefer not to waste energy.
 29. Jesus .... How can I have an opinion on someone or something I doubt existed?
 30. The Bible One of most immoral and horrible books ever written. All you need to do is read it which 95 percent of Christians have never read cover to cover.
 31. The Christian Faith Get out of my face with any and all God delusions.
 32. The Drudge Report
 33. John Wayne
 34. Alex Jones...A total POS WHORE.
 35. NASCAR
 36. Tupperware
 37. Big Cheeseburgers
 38. Football
 39. Clint Eastwood
 40. The Army
 41. The Navy

 44. Ron Paul
 45. Rand Paul
 46. Marriage
 47. Family
 48. Babies
 49. Wal-Mart
 50. Flag Pins I'd rather people care more about principles than waving a flag.
 51. Steakhouses
 52. Chuck Norris
 53. Bottled Water
 54. George Washington
 55. The 1st Amendment
 56. The 2nd Amendment

 90. Big Families
 91. The Bible Belt
 92. The Creation Museum
 93. The 10 Commandments A crock of crap. What about the other 603?
 94. Anyone That Is Pro-Life
 95. Anyone Who Disagrees With Them
 96. Hard Work
 97. Patriotism
 98. Winning
 99. The Truth

Maybe it is the economist in me, but I hate hard work. My goal is to get more for less. Hard work helped shorten my dad's life. My labor supply curve is backwards bending

Working smarter as opposed to harder is always better. Nevertheless, there is something to be said for hard physical work that creates something of value.

Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton? Damn. I know communists who love them. I thought that was universal.

No, there isn't. Labor is a cost. It is better to get that item for cheaper.

Huh. Didn't see anything on that list that I would say I actually hate. Averse to, yeah...disagree with, sure...but hate? Not really.

So much hate...

From one of my favorite songs:

"These times are so uncertain
There's a yearning undefined
...People filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age...

There are people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down and hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; life goes on
You keep carrin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside.

We have a difference of opinion. I'd rather tile my own kitchen floor than pay someone to do it. I'd rather change my own oil than pay someone to change it. Life is more than numbers and dollars and cents. Yes labor is a cost but sometimes the work itself is the reward.

"Old fashioned light bulbs"? Are we supposed to like them? They cost more in electricity, are shorter-lived, more delicate, and give off less light than modern LED bulbs. What advantage do "old fashioned light bulbs" have that makes liking them a good thing?

If labor is its own reward then it isn't labor but recreation.

Hmmm. Many of the same hates.

I don't hate patriotism.

I do like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, but if those are on the list, you also have to include Motown and Louis Armstrong......unless.....

I don't hate homeschooling in principle, but on a statistical basis, I hate a lot of homeschooling.

I would definitely put limited governemt to a highlight. I like limited government. I just don't think it means what a lot of right wingers think it means.

I don't take Sarah Palin seriously enough to hate her. Maybe before she resigned as governor of Alaska, and was a real threat. After that, though, she's a sideshow.

I might put a strike through the 10th amendment. It has been ignored so much that whenever it is used it seems like someone is up to something.

Before I had my own baby, I would have said babies were on the hate list. However, that was 18 years ago. They went back on my hate list by the time my own kid was about 7 years old. Ok, ok, I don't really hate babies, but I don't enjoy their company, either, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing particularly American about babies.

I wouldn't put NASCAR on my hate list, but I would replace it with baseball on my like list.

And the Chicago Cubs should replace the Washington Redskins, especially if they go another 108 years without a World Series win.

Exactly, I don't hate them, but they're wasteful. I've never understood this idea that wasting energy is what real Americans do. Like you're only a true American if your vehicle guzzles gas and your utility bill is sky high?
