Is he still the Patron Saint? I think he is mostly forgotten. As the linked article says, he is viewed as a distant figure.
He certainly isn't cited by any of today's politicians. And his advice about "the Eleventh Commandment" ( Thou shalt not criticize other Republicans in public) is routinely ignored.

Why is this even a question? Of course he's there. He is as much a representative of their ideal as anyone. He's an entertaining bamboozelitious charlatan who evinces (or acts out) mind-boggling ignorance, is willing to say the most outrageous things without regard reality and is as vicious as a rabid rottweiler with Sarah Palin for a mother.
