Why do conservatives lie so much?

Not a lie so much as a prediction.

They predict that these people will select people to die ? No, it's a lie.

The law clearly creates an unelected committee of bureaucrats with the power to make cost-benefit decisions about what Medicare will cover, which can only be overridden by a supermajority in Congress.

Sure beats insurance companies making that call, no ?

It's a matter of opinion whether or not they really want to come for your guns. I think they do.

Then you're not lying. But they don't. So you're wrong.

Well, it is. Hardly a lie.

No matter what deal would be made with Iran, it would've been "dangerous". No deal is also "dangerous". War is also "dangerous", so that's not saying much.

I think it's fair to say that liberals are stoking climate change alarmism in order to further their agenda of increased government control over the energy economy.

And yet global warming isn't a liberal invention, which was the claim you were answering.

Travis, have you read much about authoritarian personalities? You can find them on both sides of the aisle, but in the past 30 years in the US they're really concentrated on the right side of the political aisle. John Dean wrote about them. They really are dangerous, in part because they will happily lie to get, and retain, power.

“Social dominators (authoritarian leaders) have the following recurring traits: They’re typically men; they are dominating; they oppose equality; they are desirous of personal power; they are amoral, intimidating and bullying, faintly hedonistic, vengeful, pitiless, exploitive, manipulative, and dishonest; they will cheat to win; they are highly prejudiced (racist, sexist, and/or homophobic), mean-spirited, militant, and nationalistic; they tell others what they want to hear, take advantage of ‘suckers,’ and specialize in creating false images to sell themselves. They may or may not be religious, but usually they are both political and economic conservatives and/or Republicans.”

The Art of War:
First know your enemy better than he knows himself.
Then use that knowledge to guide your plans as you work against him.
Make him devour feces and expire.
Exult and move to the next enemy.
Wash, rinse, repeat ad infinitum..............

Mal boiled that down nicely in his fair play comment.

IOW, Conservatives are stupid, not necessarily dishonest....

Maybe, but I'm not convinced that liberals or progressives are immune to this phenomenon either. One contributing factor, however, is that conservatives tend to skew older, which probably also coincides with being less technology-and-internet saavy. They haven't had as much experience navigating the information deluge that markes our current age.

Never happen

Really, not anything? That doesn't strike you as being a little naively partisan?

I think that, however misguided, Republicans' concern over liberty is good and it's something I wish Democrats would talk more about. The tyrrany of the majority is potentially a real problem, and it's one that outside of marriage equality is one that Democrats don't seem to worry about at all.

Personally I think the main problem is that we've allowed the inmates to substitute conservative for Republican and liberal for Democrat, and thus take over the assylum. It allows conservatives to create a false dichotomy against liberalism, even though liberalism is in large part the traditional American ideology. The real axis should be between Radical and Conservative--i.e., the willingness to reshape society and the instinct to preserve it. Liberalism is opposed to Authoritarianism, and allowing the terms to be conflated doesn't serve the interests of the already confused public.

But my political views are probably colored by the fact that I was raised in a liberal Republican household, which is today apparently not a thing.

I don't actually think Obama hates our Constitution or wants to destroy the US, but I also don't think his actions are easily distinguishable from a President who would want to hurt the US. If there really was some sort of Manchurian candidate President, what would he be doing differently?
Wow.

Wow.

Campaign on a promise of restoring troubled relations with Russia, and then preside over a whole new chapter of growing US-Russian enmity?

Campaign on a promise of closing down the Guantanamo Bay detention center, and then... not?

Campaign on a promise of pulling US troops out of Iraq, and then reveal that his hands were tied by the previous status of forces agreement, and that he was powerless to make any changes there? And then take credit for being forced to comply with that agreement?

Why do progressives lie so much, anyway?

meanwhile, while we debate if the RW likes to lie, the threads near this one include..

- how Planned Parenthood is selling parts of dead babies (based on misleadingly-edited videos)

- the second seemingly-endless Benghazi thread alleging misdeeds already dis-proven

- how a $15 an hour minimum wage would destroy the economy, despite the real-life evidence that it would do no such thing

- how conservatives in state legislatures are passing laws requiring doctors to give false information to women seeking abortions so as to discourage them from ending their pregnancies. IOW, requiring doctors to lie to patients.

just sayin'

So you lie to illustrate how others lie? Interesting.

I'm pretty liberal but this thread is just flamebait.

Such a loaded question, too! "Why do you beat your wife so much?"

Yup

As an aside, it's amazing how polarized politics has become. Just like smart people being ridiculed as 'poindexters' and 'nerds', I've found that to both the right and left a moderate, previously somebody who takes the best from both sides and discards the rest, is now considered 'wishy-washy' and 'unable to take a position'.

This thread is a good example of this polarization. The moderate is a dying breed. Long live the extremist!

As I have noted elsewhere, the "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" version is nastier and often more diabolical - as a good political question should be............

Why do conservatives lie so much?

The short answer;

They are trying to keep up with the other side....
