Yes. The US were fairly certain the Japanese were going to attack (they knew the fleet had left Japan for starters). The armed forces were put on alert. That Hawaii didn't take it seriously (ie that the Japanese would strike across the Pacific) is why the people in command there were both removed from command (Short in disgrace).

As for the rest of that stuff, yes. We all know Roosevelt wanted the opportunity to get into the war in Europe because he understood the threat posed by the Nazis.

US Pacific forces were put on a war alert nearly a fortnight earlier. This is the position they should have been in at Pearl. They were not. Short had these orders.

As for the carriers being the only source for the defence...there were land based fighters at Pearl, you know. And why would the carriers be in any better position than the rest of the fleet there froma surprise air attack?

Oh, and Kimmel sent the carriers out at different times on delivery missions. So it that had nothing to do with Short, which you would have known had you...well...actually read anything on this instead of pulling stuff out of your arse.
