When will Northerners learn the truth about the Civil War.

<snip>
These are a few of the reasons why Texas seceeded. The word "Slavery" is only mentioned twice if i am not mistaken.

You linked to the document already, no need to post it just to show that you hav difficulties with reading comprehension.

How many times does it mention taxes? Just curious.
And you do realize that the words slavery or slave-holding are only mentioned X number of times BECAUSE ENTIRE PARAGRAPHS OF THE DOCUMENT ARE ABOUT THAT TOPIC, ... don't you?

THE CONFEDERATE FLAG IS A SYMBOL OF HERITAGE

I am still surprised that people not only hold this view but also feel the need to put in capital letters. The flag is a symbol of a traitorous action that cost hundreds of thousands of lives. It is a symbol of a war that was lost. Why choose that symbol for your heritage? Why not look at all the other contributions each of the Southern states have made to America's history and use one of those as your symbol of heritage?

My mistake. I like it. It really displays what the south was fighting for.

Ummm...were they fighting for God? Was this a crusade of some kind?

I don't recall the North invading and taking over the Holy Cities of Virginia...

BTW anyone else notice half the photos from the video are of modern-day Civil War re-enactors?

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills. No need to insult. Like i said. These are just a few of the reasons listed. It is about the federal union not giving the south the rights they deserve, and not treating them like they should.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morrill_Tariff The South had to pay 80% of this tax, after most of them had already seceded.

It may be youtube, but he really hits the nail on the head.

Because i can not ignore my history and i refuse to let some history challenged northerners, and southerners who are not native to the south spit on it.

I appologize i thought i said that. :(

Shudda realized from the thread title (and your silly thread nearby).

The song is not a paeon to the Confederacy. Do you think that because of the one slide with a plug on it. The song is a soldier's lament with nothing about what he was (possibly) about to die for.

Here's a tribute to the people of the are encompassed by the Confederate States (not their cause). It says a lot more and is far more sympathetic to the people in question. (And it's a good song. The one you linked to is kinda crappy.)

ETA: TWO THREADS HAVE BEEN MERGED. THE SONG POST BY THE SAME OP WAS THE OPENING OF ANOTHER THREAD, NOW INCORPORATED HEREIN.

WHat the South was really fighting for in the Civil War.....?

I know there are a few errors in this video, but other than that it hits the nail on the head as to one of the main reasons of what the south was fighting for in the Civil War. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDrr5xI-ebE&feature=channel_page. For example the bill was passed after most of the south had already seceded and made them pay for this tax. After the south seceded. The union tried to make the south pay this tax, when the south didn't. The union basically invaded to take it a gun point.

What? There are alot of Northeners who dont know the truth, and there are alot of northerners who live in the south who dont know the truth, but most real southerners do know the truth.

Oh, please.

The only person who's been demonstrated to be completely and totally ignorant of history here is you.

The song is about dieing for a cause, that you believe in. That is precisely what the south did.

That hits the nail on the head??? I'm gob-smacked. I thought maybe you'd drunk the Flavor-Aid. I didn't realize you own the concession to it.

That video's a joke. The idjit can't even spell "which". It's written like someone doing a bad parody of an ignorant redneck.

The North invaded the South to collect taxes?

But now I see what sort of "sources" you use. Pretty much as I suspected, Mr. History Buff.

I know my history very well, as a former history student. ( I changed majors when i realized i did not want to spend my life teaching it.)
Watch this video about what the south was really fighting for in the Civil War. WHich shows the north was the aggressors.

I am a native southerner, and probably a whole lot older than you, so I've been a southerner longer than you. By your painful logic that means that my views take precedence over yours. You may leave the thread now, and perhaps it will slither down to page two and not embarass you much further.

ETA: Stop posting the same links/info twice. Especially illiterate crap like that video.

He spelt like that on purpose. His youtube name is Confederate Soilder not Confederate Soldier. Like i said he spelt it that way intentionally. And i told you there were a few errors in it. Its not my fault you didn't listen.
