Late to the party here, and not that you asked, but...
My primary problem with Glenn Beck is the naked greed he seems to espouse, the raw idea that all the world's problems can be solved if we just let people grab all they can get, and to hell with the consequences for the rest of us. It's a nasty, underhanded, cruel, and destructive, and has no place for someone with either a conscience, or a rational mind.
He's dishonest about history, he's dishonest with his viewers and listeners. His books make inappropriate use of facts, and in some cases, he twists facts to the breaking point to support his odd positions. As he's smearing Vapo-Rub on his eyes to evoke tears of grief for America's faults and failures, he has never once put his mind to work to consider solutions to the difficulties we face, save to work and rework his opportunistic efforts, all of which have the ultimate goal of lining Glenn's rather deep pockets.
He isn't so much a Conservative, (at least by my own odd definition of such), as much as he's simply one more greedy charlatan, spewing his toxic slop wherever he can, all in the name of "America," or at least in the name of an America I wouldn't recognize once Beck's version of it came to fruition. In reading a recent article in Mother Jones, I couldn't help but think that Beck isn't too far off from people like Oral Roberts, or Rex Humbard, save for the Mormon aspect of his life. That he's a cheerleader for the Tea Party silliness, complete with its xenophobia, its loose grip on reality, and its hunger for the raw power it claims exists on the other side demonstrates further why he shouldn't be trusted with anything sharper than a thimble. (Frankly, my thought is if the money were right, Beck would be shilling for the Ginsu, one of the crappiest knives on the market, but that's me.)
I don't simply dislike Beck: I've listened to him, read a bit of him, and I'm convinced the "America" he wants to see us return to never existed in the first place, save for perhaps The Turner Diaries. This man scares the hell out of me, and that he actually has an audience that supports this drivel leaves me unnerved.
You're welcome to him, if you have a mind for that kind of thing.
