what was BEFORE the Big Bang?

Just what is a soul, is it energy, memory nothing more than volatile gas produced after a decent spicy curry? Do we have a soul; or is the need for one in some so strong, as to make us not out to be the machines that at base roots we are?

thank you, Wolverine, for the link to the 'curious about astronomy' site. There I found the kind of understandable explanations that I was looking for.

The book I'm currently reading says
In the beginning is the void and the void belongs to neither time nor space and is therefore beyond our imagination.

Nothing will come of nothing, unless it's the beginning of the world. This is how it begins, with the word and the word is life. The void is transformed by a gigantic firecracker allowing time to dawn and imagination to begin.
Makes as much sense as anything.

The book is Human Croquet, by Kate Atkinson, by the way.

"I am the storyteller at the end of time. I know how it ends. It ends like this."

Rolfe.

Tricky indeed. But the obvious riposte is "...tell me how something non-physical came from nothing."

The point being, we don't have an answer, and neither do they. How did anything come from nothing?
Oh yes we do. In the begining God created...Ive already shared this website on other posts...but I'm gona do it again for anyone still open for answers? Ken Ham's website...http://www.answersingenesis.org/

That's not an answer, in the same way that "By the Ice Cream Man" is not a proper answer to "How is ice cream made?" If you could somehow explain how God supposedly did it, that would be an answer.

No doubt this has been explained to you before.

A few illuminating paragraphs from AiG:

For those of you who have kept up with our lectures and our articles in Creation magazine, you will have heard or read quotes from many well-known and respected Christian leaders admitting that if you take Genesis in a straight-forward way, it clearly teaches six ordinary days of Creation. However, the reason they don’t believe God created in six literal days is because they are convinced from so-called ‘science’ that the world is billions of years old. In other words, they are admitting that they start outside the Bible to (re)interpret the Words of Scripture.

. . . . . .

And the fact is, every single dating method (outside of Scripture) is based on fallible assumptions. There are literally hundreds of dating tools. However, whatever dating method one uses, assumptions must be made about the past. Not one dating method man devises is absolute! Even though 90% of all dating methods give dates far younger than evolutionists require, none of these can be used in an absolute sense either.

Thanks for sharing, Kathy. This kind of stuff is really great for showing the internet viewing public how one group of lying weasels are preying on the gullible.

The following information is about our easy-to-use Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) service. This convenient service allows you to authorize Answers in Genesis to deduct your monthly gifts automatically from your checking/savings accounts or charge your monthly gifts to your credit card.

There are two great forces in the universe, yin and yang.

When dark matter is greater than dark, energy space collapses to form a black hole.

When dark energy is greater than dark, matter space expands forming an emptiness.

As space expands the density dark energy remains constant per unit volume of space, while dark matter density decreases. Eventually the gravity of the dark matter cannot stop the expansion and space expands at an ever increasing rate. Eventually the expansion becomes so fast that ordinary matter, atoms and even protons, cannot stay together and rip apart. The expansion rate speeds up faster and faster, ripping virtual particles apart turning them into real matter starting with virtual photon pairs, then virtual electron pairs, all the way up until ripping apart virtual dark matter particles flooding space with them, then gravity from the dark matter slows the expansion of space. Ordinary matter annihilates and decays, space cools again, stars and galaxies form. Things become quiet for a while.

There is no beginning and no end. :)

Or, more fundamentally, why is there something, rather than nothing?

Thanks for your response, Kathy. Many of us here are already aware of AiG and Ken Ham.

Unfortunately, if you thought about it for a second, you'd realise that God, being as you believe 'something', cannot be an answer to the question "why is there something rather than nothing?".

Google "infinite regress".

I repeat,

There are no better answers in mythology or philosophy than there are in science.

I can't stand the American Insurance Group either. It's well devious of AIG not to cover Acts of God in their motor insurance policies. By their definition that doesn't cover anything. Sneaky bleedin weasels.
