What skills do you have?

Well dgm, truth be told ( pun intended ) not really. But not because i don't want any. I thought that maybe there would be some legitimate answers to the question. I mean if one is avoiding evil attention by a giant organization, one must be doing something that is letting them get away with it.

Really it is a question that puts them on the spot and makes them think, which for some reason is causing an angry reaction.
I seriously doubt any "truther" thinks that deeply into it. Think about it, how could you function in every day life knowing that just around the corner is the evil doer your trying to call out? They maybe trying to convince themselves but, when it all comes down to it very few "truthers" truly believe the BS they spew.

Dennett

So do you propose that they are into what Dan Dennett calls "belief in belief"?

That they believe in the belief of being skeptical of the government?

Dgm

I hear you, and that is the problem, that they don't think that deeply into it, that is one of the things that turned me off the Conspiracy theory movement. Once you read all the crap then most people would start looking for "things to do" ( i hate to abuse the reference, but think of mel's apartment in conspiracy theory.) or ways to fight the man.

But them my bubble was burst when " fighting the man" consisted of coming up with new " what if's" about conspiracies, or buying the latest Alex Jones dvd. Where are the Jason Bournes? Where are the V's? Where is Rorshack? Hell i got the the point where i would have settled for Horshack.

But no, nothing has ever, or will ever actually be done within the conspiracy theory circle. And that to me is the most suspect thing in the whole debacle. I love how they are huge fans of comparing themselves with characters like V, you know i must have missed the part where all v does is type on internet forums while eating Cheezies and telling me my grammar sucks.

Everyone needs friends. To a lot of these "truthers" I believe the movement is perceived as just that, a friend. Hey, what's better then belonging to a cause that involves millions (hey why not inflate your fantasy).

I think more "truthers" have succumbed to girlfriends then "debunkers".:D

Dgm:

You know the sad thing is , i have seen first hand how people can change. My best friend became a truther ( though i feel your statement is correct, it was because of his g/f) and i saw the rapid steady downfall of this guy to a point where he went from the Tom to my Jerry, to the Steve Roads to my Al Bundy.

And i wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if a lot of truthers have traded in real life friends for nameless internet drones.

I don't know how old your friend is (or you for that matter) but I suspect that he is young (-20). People go through rebellious phases and I believe that constitutes the ever changing "core" of the "truth" movement. I've seen this many times over many years and many issues.

FYI, I'm 50+ :D

25 and the friend in question is 29. Though the mentioned g/f was of about the age range you were speaking.

I would love to chalk it up to a passing fancy, and that is what i did.....3 years ago. But it dosn't seem to be loosing hold any time soon.

And as a side not, not one response yet. I mean its not like the truthers all left, they just all hate this question.

Hey, a younger girlfriend can make an older guy do all sorts of bizarre ****. This too will come around when they both grow up (most likely not together).

The point of the matter is (I believe) the "truth" movement is a bunch of ever changing young idealists that eventually move on with their lives. Don't get me wrong, I know this will continue for many years to come, just with different players.

DGM:

I hear you on that one, my gripe is when it gets its claws into someone older and more experienced. Because just like the scientist who falls for homeopathy, you now have an intelligent person defending unintelligent beliefs. And this along with personal investment, can make quite an awkward situation.

You know, loving the conversation, but still waiting for the chosen truther to come in and blow my question out of the water. Though admittedly not holding my breath about the issue.

Truthers are surprisingly easy to find. If you ask them to be your Facebook friend, any of the active members in We Are Change will accept. You can set yourself as a neonazi skinhead and they'd accept. Most of them have over a thousand Facebook friends. You can get all kinds of personal information about them from their Facebooks. Some post resumes and phone numbers. I have even Googled photos of some of them homes. It is easier to enter the world of conspiracy theorists than it is to make friends over the net with ordinary people.

Not that it matters, but I live in a place that had martial law until 1987. I know people who spend long terms in prison for advocating democracy. In China, this still goes on. People who live under governments that murder citizens are afraid. If they speak out, they live in fear. Many of them hide. These idiots claim that the Bush Adminstration murdered more Americans that the Iranian government has killed in recent protests. Iranians who send videos to CNN live in fear. They ask for international support.

Kids pretending they're political criminals. Must be the new way to play Cowboys & Indians.

Not a Truther, but my resume accurately lists several of my job titles as "(blank) Engineer." With my schooling I would never actually describe myself as any sort of engineer, but I know enough that Truther BS stands out like a sore thumb, even to me.

ETA a response to scott: My earliest entry on my Facebook page was along the lines of, "Okay, I'm networking socially. What do I do next?" A few days later my daughter posted she was having a heavy period, which was hard to ignore already.

I am currently trying to figure out how I can delete my Facebook account. Without asking directions, since my guyness is rather pathetically cliched.

Are you asking me? I can't remember, but if you go to Google and type in Facebook delete, you can get instructions.

Quick question to our truther friends.

The government ( or nwo, or the jews, or whomever) is powerful enough to manipulate events on a world scale, to control entire television networks, to off so many people at a whim, both famous and non famous.

What special skills do you posses that make you immune to the evil attention of this organization?

I am just curious as to how someone can consistently post on internet forums, not change their day to day lives ( in most cases) , and in the case of more famous truthers hold rallies without any real security and still remain unharmed or unsilenced by the big evil organization.

The question is a red herring. The fact that famous truthers can walk around unharmed does not mean that random fires can cause the simultaneous failure of 57 massive steel columns.

Great. More words you don't understand. We can add RANDOM to the list.

lets see
symmetrical
explosions
uniform
footprint
and the list goes on and on. Absolutely amazing.

How does a building that falls into its own "footprint" manage to strike 2 adjacent buildings, causing a collapse FROM THE ROOF of one of these buildings? Unless those two adjacent buildings were inside the footprint of wtc7... Then it isn't just that you don't understand the word footprint, you dont' understand basic architecture or engineering.

and how can anything be "blown to smithereens" silently?

so we have more words that YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

That is a dodge. If this was a conspiracy , then they wouldn't want people to go around talking about it now would they? I mean that is kinda the point of a conspiracy, no?

It just seems the nwo is the worst villian in the history of time. They had a couple of good ideas i guess, but then they can't take out a nutbar in an open public space? They can't block him from broadcasting? They can't set him up for murder? And more to the point, they can't do this to any of the little truthers?

So is what your saying though, that in this big evil world, you take no precautions against the big evil organization? Sounds like you don't fear them, plain and simple. And when they are doing things like building death camps in America that dosn't seem really all that smart. Your willing to admit they have power over the entire world, but that you don't have to worry. Simply put it dosn't make sense.

Scott:

This is the problem i find with us westerners. We have it so awesome that we look for crap to be angry about. I mean we live in a society where these people can protest whenever and wherever they want ( within reason) with no fear of reprisal, we can say anything we want , but from what i hear we are living in a dictatorship.

Do the truthers not see the irony in saying " we live in a dictatorship ran by evil villians" in the middle of the street, and knowing your going to go home and eat a nice dinner that night? For the love of Kord , i was hassled more in my protest days ( the tail end of the punk movement, me being 25 and all) protesting the circus, or local government.

I would like to see any truther spend 2 years in a actually crappy part of the world. And see how fast they beg to come back to our evil dictatorship.

They wouldn't make it a week. They would open their stupid traps like they do over here and then realize the true meaning of oppression when the hammer comes down on them.

Alexi:

Well if tinfoil works, who knows.

Still i would like to note not one response to this question. But a couple of more dodges.
