He's getting older and feels he should be much better off. Along comes the "truthers" who see him as a god who are willing to pay to see (what is essentially a nobody) speak is an intoxicating proposition (fame sort of). I'm not sure at this point he even knows what he stands for. The sad part is (if I recall) this whole thing has now cost him his marriage.
That would come under "fool", in my view. There is a Scots word "doited" which would express immesurably greater contempt and comes closer to my actual opinion on a professional who prostitutes himself in this manner.
