like, honestly, getting all bent out of shape that calling your opponents nazis is hyperbole when there's a literal white nationalist in charge of immigration doesn't land like it used to. there's anti vaxxers in charge of the department of health firing all the legitimate experts, the doj and fbi are corrupt and hiding pedo rings to protect the president, elon musk broke into the social security database and stole all your personal info, they're stealing every billion that isn't nailed down, and you could go on and on. oh, and now they're getting into gambling on whether or not they'll commit war crimes. it's not hyperbole, this is ◊◊◊◊◊◊.
As I've said countless times before, they're acting exactly like an occupying force pillaging some occupied territory or colony.

Democrats are doing that all the time. People are doing it right here in this thread, and have been, across this forum, for years. Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" is an iconic example of the phenomenon.
What quote are you referring to? What exactly did she say?

My position is the Democrats threw their chances out the window over O'Bama's handling of Flint's poisoned water.

He had a chance to show genuine leadership and instead decided to take a dump on the victims of the crime with his stunt in not drinking water at the press conference.

Sadly, the average MAGA voter is right about one thing - all the Democrats care about is enriching themselves and being in the White House. Principles be damned - why have them when you can have money?

Nobody was thinking about that when it came to the 2024 election, if they were they weren't blaming Dems. Maybe someone in 2016 was thinking about that but it wasn't many some ones.

You mean the water crisis 10 years ago that the Republican governor mishandled so badly that he subsequently faced criminal charges? It takes some pretty next-level cherry-picking to depict that as a failure of *Democrat* political leadership. But you do you.

also since we're back on we don't like the words but we like the policies on immigration, this seems relevant. let's forget for a moment that this was all entirely predictable on account of stephen miller being a white supremacist, and forget you got ice running around with brown paint swatches to figure out who to terrorize and deport, and forget they're quoting white supremacists in trying to overturn the constitution. i guess we could just examine if whether or not this is the type of immigration policy you want. only south african white supremacists allowed?

No, but it exposed him and the party as cheap frauds.

Have you seen the clip of Obama pretending to sip water at the meeting where he had the chance to show leadership and compassion?

I'm not blaming him for the crisis, but his action was deplorable, cowardly and unforgivable.

Is this a troll? Why should he have not drunk water? I find this complaint completely bizarre. Almost as bizarre is the suggestion that people should still be mad about this ten years later, and that it should be transferred to the Democratic party in general after all this time. Almost as bizarre as your continuing to ignore the significantly greater failures of leadership and compassion shown by Governor Snyder in the same circumstances.

I hardly ever see anyone quote what she says about the basket that isn't of deplorables. I know it sounds like a joke when I say that (besides that, Mrs. Lincoln,) but she did very much describe the other basket.

"but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change."

I do understand that saying out loud that a lot of the opposition are bigots is a terrible PR move but I do not understand people who act like her point wasn't true or that she didn't also understand and acknowledge that a lot of her opponents had genuine woes and anxieties. Instead everyone acts like if you're a Republican she just called YOU PERSONALLY a bigot. Her 'other basket' isn't even a weaselly backhand like when Fox pundits say 'maybe some democrats aren't evil thieves, maybe they're just stupid and incompetent'

Ugh, the double standard just grinds my gears.

You're either unaware of the his performance, or you missed the point. It was years ago and I have no idea where the video is, but he was there to reassure residents the water was safe to drink now.

He asked for a glass of water. Since he had been talking for all of about 18 seconds, it was clearly him showing the people he'd solved the problem and the water was safe to drink.

He let the water touch his lips but not a microlitre passed into his mouth.

And obviously so.

A despicable and cowardly act.

Perhaps the reason I am unaware of this is that it never happened. I've seen videos of Obama reportedly drinking filtered Flint water at a briefing, and I recall there was some manufactured outrage about it something something insensitivity bad optics something something etc.

Nothing about him trying to convince people the water was now safe to drink. When you do find that video, go ahead and upload it and perhaps I will comment on it then.

Show us the video you're talking about. Until then, POIDH. I suspect you're just angry at your own garbled memories.

And one I bet no one but one non-voter in NZ remembers….

I'd be astonished if anyone else in NZ has any idea about it. Democrats in America have selective memory.

Obama In Flint: 'Can I Get Some Water?' | NBC News - YouTube https://share.google/7wMZjZX2fhKDJGT5b

NBC news. Probably fake.

The water touches his top lip. He did not ingest any. Amazing for a bloke with an obvious tickle in the throat so bad he had to ask several times for a drink.

But do carry on defending the indefensible.

Considering all the ◊◊◊◊ ups presidents have done over the years and hardly anyone remembers the great sipping controversy, I don't think this is what is the main burden for the entire party

It's all part of the attitude of the Democratic Party. It's not just USA; left parties everywhere suffer from the same thing, an initial desire to do good being overcome by crippling greed.

Being somewhat stupid, I keep imagining someone breaking that mould, and I thought Obama was it.

I was wrong, but I've also been wrong about Jacinda Ardern and Nigel* Starmer.

If we don't keep pushing for someone to be the Charles Upham, we're going to end up with the same white trash forever.

*yes, I know, but him having the name of a truly great man galls me. If I was his dad I'd force him to change it.

I don't know if that's a stunt, but it looks exactly like the sort of controlled sip somebody would take after having a little bit of media training on the topic of water drinking.

Even this guy knows to just take a tiny sip so the viewer barely notices it...
