Don't know, don't care. It's the illegality, not the ethnicity, that matters to me.
To you, perhaps, though others here seem to doubt that. However, to many of Trump's white supremacist supporters, and to Bogative here on this forum, the skin colour is paramount.
My hypothesis is that some people know that illegal immigration is indefensible, but don't want to concede a point to "the right", so they resort to vile non sequiturs as part of a Big Lie strategy.
Calling racists 'racists' is not a vile non sequitur.
Venturing an opinion on matters American here, and bracing myself for the fury this will engender ("GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS THREAD!! Y'ALL AIN'T NO MURICAN!!!! Y'ALL DON' HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE A-COMMENTIN' HERE!!!!!!), I did talk about this before, with reference to the 2016 election. People are concerned about immigration- and this is a valid concern. The problem, back in 2016 and now in 2024, is that far too often, Democrats took the lazy, patronising approach, talking down to these people and dismissing them as stupid racists. They were then- and are now- apparently bewildered that these people they insulted and patronised didn't vote for them. Immigration, both legal and illegal, does affect communities, and politicians need to deal with these effects, and listen to the voters who are concerned about them. Ignoring them, or talking down to them, won't help.
Unfortunately, because the Democrats alienated these voters so effectively, they got swept up by the extremist right, who fanned the flames and enticed these voters into the fold, along with a sizeable number of far-right, white supremacist scumbags. A major part of Trump's appeal rests on his affecting to listen to these disenchanted people, who feel that they are being ignored by the left-wing intelligentsia.
It's not like Cosmic Yak has a principled, coherent argument for why illegal immigration should be tolerated if it's brown people.
Why would I? It is not my belief that illegal immigration should be 'tolerated' at all. Nor do I understand why you would say that.
