Do you assume the law is a great arbitrator of fair penalties?
No ******* way.
It just is a very imperfect attempt.

I both generally agree and respectfully disagree. If one simply gets in an argument and it results in fists being thrown, you are absolutely right, it isn't dehumanizing. However a victim of violence can definitely be scarred and felt dehumanized. It doesn't have to be sexual for something to psychologically and emotionally damaging.
Don't know if it helps, but google translate gives the following:
alumni->students
alumniu->alumniae
alumnius-Alumni (capitalization in the translation)
Don't know if that would help figure anything out?
Clearly they don't teach Latin at Yale.
Not really. Google Translate tries desperately and often admirably to help people out with misspellings. In this instance it is of little help.
"Alumnus" is a 2nd declension (masculine) noun. None of its forms include "alumnius".
Even as "alumna", a 1st declension (feminine) noun, there is no such form.
There is an adverb, "alumnē", which in the comparative case uses the singular neuter ending, "alumnius", but context would not suggest that this is the usage intended.
I tell you two bullies beat me up when I was 9.
I tell you my uncle non-violently molested me when I was 9.
Which statement gets me more sympathy? Which statement makes me a bigger "victim." If I'm therapy at 40 years because I got beat up on the playground would that be considered normal?
Maybe, however school shootings, other retribution type violence, and suicides show that non-sexual bullying can have a severe psychological impact that can result in considerable harm to society.That's fair. My concern is that the damage from sexual assault eats into more corners of the victim's psyche.
I used to occasionally help in classes for women's self-defense. I'm a big guy, so I would be the attacker, in protective gear so that the woman could unload on me with realistic force.
We noticed something: if I wore full headgear with a visor, the women would give a confident attack. If I switched to open face and removed the mouthguard, I would look at them aggressively in the eyes and convincingly say threatening sexual things, and they would respond very half-heartedly. They said that they felt powerless when being dehumanized, so I think there is an extra element with sexual assaults that goes deeper.
There is that aspect of betrayal of trust I hadn't thought about.The molestation by the Uncle is a huge betrayal of trust, which is likely to be far more devastating that getting a beating from two school bullies.
In my case, if I could go back and replace the beating (common assault) with the molestation (sexual assault), I'd take the common assault every time.

I do wonder though if both beatings and sexual assault all boils down to control by the attacker (forcing their will over someone else) and the violation of a persons self and the potential subsequent fear and sense of lack of control of the victim.
Rape is especially nasty violation of a persons self. Depending on the male though, getting seriously beaten up could have devastating consequences to the victim in a similar way.
Severity... and pervasiveness.I wanted to be careful and said I was comparing non-penetrative sexual assault or violations. It appears though that some of you agree vicious physical battery can be comparable to even rape, though I suppose it's easy for someone who hasn't experienced both to judge, nor have I looked at the literature.
It would depend on the severity.

Change the cufflinks to a donkey and it works for 1998 too.
"Hello Mr. Rapist would you ever so kindly provide me with your name, social security number, finger prints, and home of address before you go?"
You've never heard of a rape kit?
How the **** do you use a rape kit on an attempted rape??
You do realize that attempted rape is illegal too right?
The argument is that she would have no motive to lie. The counter-argument is that there are many plausible motives to lie that cannot be ruled out.
