Well, this politcal cartoon sure is spot on.

I'm not sure if there is a level of cynical above "This person has to be lying because people are trying to help them."

Kavanaugh has plenty of reason and motivation to lie also. In light of that, if you want to argue one party is more motivated to lie than the other, please provide actual statistics, or you are just creating scenarios with nothing to back them - in the case of the incident Ford alleges.

Can you please provide a quote where he said this from the transcript? I think that you are mistaken. Stacyhs posted the quote that I remember on this. It's vague and refers to "seniors," not to himself.

It's so vague on purpose. He is implying that he was legally drinking.

It's like he's answering the question "did you steal $50 from your mom?" with "only a thief would steal $50 from my mom."

Maybe this picture?

Exactly!

If she was shopping for a book deal then she wouldn't have asked for anonymity.
I think we are making progress.

As an observer of these debates, I can assure you that you haven't made
progress. Expect some hypothetical sinister motivations behind her being
anonymous. Use your imagination and come up with a few on your own.
It's easy.

The claim that money was a motive for her coming forward is a scurrilous fraud perpetrated by the scummy pricks that support the lying bastard masquerading as a SCOTUS nominee, and the other lying bastard that nominated him.

You might be suffering from two separate ailments, afflicted with both Trump and Kavanaugh derangement syndromes. Unfortunately, for you anyway, a cure is not expected to be found for decades.

I think you're obviously suffering from Mercer Derangement Syndrome. How much did 'Becca slip you to come in here and run interference for the Orange Turdblossom and RapeyJudge?

I mean, if you and Zig and the other honorable (cough!) reactionaries can't discount that she was motivated by money, we have to equally wonder just what price you guys put on making fools of yourselves several times per day (in your case - in Zig's that's per hour).

Does your article contain the opinions of legal scholars? This one does and spoiler alert; no perjury.

If anybody with authority truthfully believed that Kavanaugh perjured himself they would file charges. Otherwise, I'll take such allegations for what they are, insincere theatrics.
Anyone with the intelligence and awareness of your average geranium knows that perjury is difficult to prove, and that the possibility that perjury will be charged rounds to 0% ... even if he clearly lied. Which he clearly did. So no, I completely reject the absence of a perjury charge as meaningful evidence of absence of perjury.

If that was all it was, then why is she being accused of all sorts of misdeeds?

I don't think she's being accused of *all* sorts of misdeeds. Perhaps you meant some specific sorts of misdeeds directly related to her claims. Were there specific accusations you want me to consider?

Ford's has no independent corroboration for her claim against Kavanaugh. Therefore, its strength must rest entirely on her credibility as an accuser. I don't see how she can expect her claim to be taken seriously, without an examination of her credibility.

If she misremembers supporting details, or lies about them, or withholds them, this affects the credibility of her claim. Are these the sorts of misdeeds you mean?

Well at this point she's likely a promiscuous drunkard who conspires with evil democrats to take down immaculate choir boys. I'd say that's pretty bad.

Meanwhile Kavanaugh's own claims don't match reality.

Alright, alright.
On behalf of Democrats, I withdraw the nomination of Dr. Ford for the Supreme Court.

Now why do you think your guy deserves the seat?

And don’t forget that she’s a gold-digger too, cashing in on the financial windfall falsely testifying before the Senate about sexual assault always yields.

Never heard of "suffering in silence" then?

Yeah, perhaps you would like all women who have been sexually assaulted or raped (especially those whose attackers are egotistical, entitled middle-aged, self-righteous men-of-power) to just STFU and suffer in silence?

I guess that would suit your clan better wouldn't it? Then, they wouldn't have to worry about some pesky rape survivor getting in the way of their ambitions.

I don't support Zig in this debate, not in the least, but I do think that you go too far here. Let's not presume that Zig supports the victimization of women so much as disputes the appropriateness of a late and hard to verify allegation.

I am of the opinion that late is better than never in these issues, that Ford did not come publicly forward until she had to and thus is not really interested in personal gain, but in having her story told and considered. She immediately requested an investigation and thus is not interested in having her words taken without question. I don't know what happened, but I think she's behaved honorably.

That said, I think that you disparage Zig unnecessarily.

You seem to be interested in an argument I'm not actually making. Please consider engaging me on my arguments, and engaging other people on their arguments.

Meanwhile Kavanaugh's own claims don't match reality.
This rapid shift to tu quoque, without addressing any of my points or answering any of my questions, gives the distinct impression that you are conceding my argument in its entirety.

Exactly! Look how well it all turned out for Anita Hill's public reputation and career...

It is clear that women accusing powerful men of wrong doing, particularly if it disrupts the political agenda of other, yet-more- powerful men, results in huge windfalls for the accuser.

First paragraph: "engaging on my arguments.." very droll!

Second paragraph: I suggest that you are applying this term inappropriately in this context, given the issue involves the relative believability of the two.

But carry on.

You can't resist, can you? You can't actually engage in my argument without constructing the most ridiculous straw man ad hominem caricature of me you can think of. I clearly want rapists to get away with rape because I want allegations to be supported by actual evidence. I don't think there's a smilie strong enough to express my utter disdain at the complete lack of reason or reasonableness in your accusation. What a bitter, small, withered and resentful world you must inhabit.

What a bizarre request. If you back and read the exchange, nothing implies that we must stick to your arguments. The point is that, contrary to your objection, she is being accused of a number of misdeeds.

This rapid shift to tu quoque, without addressing any of my points or answering any of my questions, gives the distinct impression that you are conceding my argument in its entirety.

Then I submit that your logical algirithm is defective.

I think we can agree that impugning people motivations and implying that they have a hidden agenda is untoward...
