Well, this politcal cartoon sure is spot on.

She's got potentially a lot to gain. For some reason this upsets people to say it, but it remains true.

What? Seriously.

The most I have heard is the possibility of a go-fund me campaign and the possibility of a book deal. Neither certain at the outset. And neither enough to make up for the disruption to her career, her husbands career, and her children's lives. Sorry that is weak.

Both of motivations being largely negated by the fact that she actually asked for anonymity.

And again, what did Jackie have to lose? Nothing. Dr. Ford has lost a lot already.

Hmmm... what could possibly have led to hostility between us? :eusa_think:

I don't know but perhaps you hold grudges. That's a character flaw, by the way.

I think she's lying because her story simply doesn't add up.

You're the one who brought up the sweet payment thing, not I. Why'd you bring it up if you didn't believe it? Just throwing stuff and hoping it'll stick?

It has the markings of a fabricated accusation, with nothing real to support it. That assessment is completely independent of motive.

A fabricated accusation... independent of motive. Nice.

I'm perfectly willing to leave her motives out of the equation completely

Yeah, now that you've JAQ'ed off on it, sure.

Which justifies using a more relaxed standard such as preponderance of evidence. It doesn't justify simply accepting accusations without any evidence, as is being done here.

I don't think anyone's saying that. That's your strawman.

Nope. Try again, if you actually want to know. If you don't, well, there's nothing more to say.

I didn't bring it up out of the blue.

That's exactly what people are saying, they're just pretending it's not. Because that's all Ford's accusations have ever been. There has never been any evidence to support them, and more and more reason to doubt them. And yet, they're widely believed, and people are demanding the Senate block him as a result.

It isn't a possibility. It has already happened. For example:
https://www.gofundme.com/help-christine-blasey-ford
https://www.gofundme.com/to-cover-dr-fords-security-costs
https://www.gofundme.com/honor-dr-blasey-as-an-educator
Over $700,000 raised so far.

Both of motivations being largely negated by the fact that she actually asked for anonymity.

That cuts both ways. Had she remained anonymous, she wouldn't have suffered any negative consequences either.

I'm not going to play your whack-a-mole game. Either come out and say it or don't, but don't blame me for your lack of clarity.

I didn't bring it up out of the blue.

That doesn't answer my question.

That's exactly what people are saying, they're just pretending it's not.

Oh, I see. People say one thing but you can divine their true intentions, not unlike you can divine Ford's true intentions, or how some have tried to divine yours and you lost your **** over it.

It was a possibility. An unknown.

Still, that wouldn't be enough for me to blow up my family the way this has blown up hers.

That cuts both ways. Had she remained anonymous, she wouldn't have suffered any negative consequences either.

Exactly! If she was shopping for a book deal then she wouldn't have asked for anonymity. I think we are making progress.

Judge
Kavanaugh's July 1 calendar entry
others still to be interviewed

Easily disprovable statements actually weaken your position.

Not to mention that the GoFundMe will almost certainly come nowhere near covering what this whole exercise is going to cost her monetarily.

She now has to have personal security (which is very, very expensive), she has had to move her family out of their home and into a safe house (also, very expensive)... and all that is thanks to the pus-filled scumbag Kavanaugh/Trump supporters who threatened her life and that of her family.

The claim that money was a motive for her coming forward is a scurrilous fraud perpetrated by the scummy pricks that support the lying bastard masquerading as a SCOTUS nominee, and the other lying bastard that nominated him.

ETA: and judging by what I understand of Christine Blasey Ford, if by some miracle she is able to completely cover everything this has cost her, and there is something left over, she will almost certainly give it away to a rape survivor related charity

Except that the person who assaulted her would become a Supreme Court justice.
I would call that a very negative consequence.

PS. What smartcooky said.

Never heard of "suffering in silence" then?

Yeah, perhaps you would like all women who have been sexually assaulted or raped (especially those whose attackers are egotistical, entitled middle-aged, self-righteous men-of-power) to just STFU and suffer in silence?

I guess that would suit your clan better wouldn't it? Then, they wouldn't have to worry about some pesky rape survivor getting in the way of their ambitions.

Are you naive enough to think that money doesn't make a difference to someone's quality of life?
Not when it's only enough to cover one's new massively increased expenses for a few weeks-months (and that still does nothing about the stress to go along with those new expenses).

And do you propose to do that by throwing the accused under the bus without evidence?
Getting to keep the cushy influential job he already has but just not getting a new cushier influentialler one is not getting thrown under a bus.

And if you cared about evidence for accusations, you wouldn't be making your own accusations without evidence.

It's almost as if she's the one on trial.
It's almost as if she has the burden of proof. It's almost as if it's her claims that must be tested.

Did you really expect that she would get to refer Kavanaugh to court of public opinion, without having to throw herself on the mercy of that same court?

You might be suffering from two separate ailments, afflicted with both Trump and Kavanaugh derangement syndromes. Unfortunately, for you anyway, a cure is not expected to be found for decades.

And Jackie had no plausible reason to lie about Haven either.

So let me get this straight. A very successful and respected in her field college professor, married to a successful engineer, both making excellent money is supposed to have lied to Congress and everyone else about an assault that took place 36 years ago and involved a 6 year set up period in the hopes that she'd get some money out of it. That's plausible, all right.

Or do you think she's doing it for attention, even though she sent the letter with instructions to remain anonymous and was forced to go public when journalists were going to her home and classroom?

I guess it's always possible. But it's also possible that 9/11 was an inside job.

As for college student 'Jackie:
According to multiple media, Jackie may have invented the gang rape story in an unsuccessful attempt to win the affections of a fellow student that she had a romantic interest in; other sources suggested that PTSD might have factored into Jackie's creation of the story. Later, Jackie herself said that she believed her story at the time.

People lie. Even when it doesn't make sense to you why they do.

I think you meant to post that in one of the Trump threads.

Maybe Ford planned on writing a book about it? She could add it to the several she as already written or co-authored.

If that was all it was, then why is she being accused of all sorts of misdeeds? No, it has nothing to do with the burden of proof. It's about discrediting her, by all means necessary, to avoid even considering that someone on your "side" of the political spectrum could possibly be a bad choice for SCOTUS.

Hmmm. You know what could go a long way towards testing her claims?
How about an Investigation, performed by some professional Federal Bureau, not limited in scope by the Senate majority or the prez?. What do you think?

No, you're trying to imply that my selected photo MUST mean something more than an answer to the OP question. (perhaps to you it does) It would seem you'd like to try and put words in my mouth. No thanks. I answered, and will not again. Also, there was no goof. The image is perfect for the OP question. [snip]

OP question: "Can you sum up what any logical person is thinking after seeing the hearings on Thursday in one picture?"

OP answer: "This political cartoonist can:"
I'm not having any trouble understanding the OP answer.

You posted a picture of the hearing with Ford's two attorneys explaining a question to her. I'm not sure who that third person is.

It's not very clear what you mean the picture shows, but it would seem you see Ford as a fraud coached by Democrats. In reality, we know Kav spent hours rehearsing what to say, Kav said so.

If you think that photo of Ford answers the OP question, my comment to you is: that's an absurd false equivalence at best and off the rails at worst.

This was pointed out in the other thread. How many folks with two good paying professional careers and kids in school would be willing to blow up their lives for the possibility of even a million dollar payout? I know I wouldn't.

Plus, the question is what the net would be after expenses. Also, both GoFundMe initiatives have stopped receiving donations.
