Welcome, Tandi

Tandi you state you believe communication with the dead is possible. What makes you think this? Do you just think it without question(closed minded)or have you some proof for us?

But why do you take offence when someone asks for clarification about a claim? Most Haunted claims to be doing research. That's why they have scientists present.

But research is questioned. That's how science operates. If someone on MH makes a claim (and they do, every show) then we have a right to point out flaws in their methods.

Most Haunted's claims are full of holes, yet when someone doubts them you seek to silence those doubters.

You claim that this is because it spoils your enjoyment of the programme. But if MH really think they're doing science, they should welcome it!

Welcome to the forum!

What does this look like to you?

Dust - that is patently obvious, and not a particularly brilliant starting point for an intelligent discussion on orbs.

You don't have to Google far to find genuine examples of orbs.

I see. So Tandi didn't actually want to debate it at all. How disappointing.

Time for some history. The thread she (I'm going to call her she from now on, on the understanding that I may be wrong) refers to is at http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=203525

This is a TV forum, where discussion of Most Haunted is a common topic. Opinion is divided on the veracity of the show, with a fair number of voices on both sides of the fence.

However, as the believers were increasingly finding that their opinions didn't seem to make much sense (particularly in the light of revelations from Jon Dennis et al), they understandably decided that the best way to avoid answering any awkward questions was to create a "fans only" thread, where such questions are banned.

[They didnt make sense to your eyes Paj. Your problem is if no-one agrees with you then they must be wrong. This is a free country and if someone decides to have an opinion that differs from yours then that is their choice. You have to learn to back the hell off and stop smothering people with your views!]

(I'd like to stress, this is NOT a believer forum. It's not as if I went into a medium society and started trolling. I entered an existing thread entitled "Derek Acorah - Fake or Genuine" and joined the debate.)

Now, I didn't take kindly to a member pretending that they can decide who can and cannot post on a thread which they created. So I ignored their demand. After all, if they are going to post unsupported claims on a public forum then they can expect questions.

[That member being ME! The DS thread is for fans of a show to get together and discuss it. They do not go on there to be constantly got at by people like yourself. You are patronising, aggressive and down right rude. Some people found you intimidating and so decided not to go on the thread anymore because of your attitude. You were acting like a bully, and I cannot stand bullies!]

Eventually, the Mods decided to pander to the request, and make the thread "fans only." Luckily, I am still a fan of the show. I think it's all fake, but I love it for the comedy aspect. :D

[Thats your choice.]

(Incidentally, they seem to have the word Randi on a filter over there. All mentions of it get asterisk-ed out. This is just a TV forum, remember.)

Tandi clearly desires a forum where everyone agrees with her. I have pointed out that such places exist. She offered to debate the topic with me in an environment where I would not be censored. It seems she doesn't want to do this at all.

[I told you that I would debate the topic with you. You chose this forum to do it on in the hope that I would be picked apart by your comrades in arms. ]

So far all I have done here is have to explain why I am here. I have done that and I have told the truth about it. If you can not handle the truth Paj, then that is your problem so stop trying to twist the facts in your favour.

Fair enough. I will continue to raise questions in the place where they arise. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

That's up to you.

You did get one thing right Paj, I am a she. That's the first thing you have been right in. Here, have another smilie for being a clever boy!!
:)

So far, this thread is hysterical.

Roight. How about you do us a simple favor and post a link to just one genuine orb? This would really help those of us who can't seem to tell the orbs from the dust particles.

But it's OK for you to create an environment where YOUR views are the only ones tolerated eh? Nice.

Now you are making assumptions. I chose this forum because I knew that censorship of ideas did not occur here. Everyone can speak freely here. I can guarantee that YOU will not be asterisk-ed or have posts deleted if you pose awkward questions. I have suffered both at Digital Spy, which is a forum for discussion of TV Programmes, not for pandering to the paranormalists. At least, that's how it seemed.

It seems you are here simply to encourage me to stop asking questions at Digital Spy. I will question claims where they occur.

:)

Are you the same Tandi who wrote this over on Digital Spy:

but if you continue with your usual antagonistic and condesending attitude I will stop any and all debates with you.

Double standards?

I dont take offence when some one asks for clarification of a claim. What I do take offence at is the arrogance of the person asking for it. No body has the right to be contemptious of another persons beliefs. I dont care who they think they are!

It is good that research is questioned, where would we be if it wasn't. If you are a scientist and you see flaws in their methods then let them know, not me.. Im only watching a show!!

I'm not trying to to silence anyone, its good that people ask questions, it's the way they ask them that annoys me. Then when they dont get the answer they want, they go all flipped out. That is no way to get to the truth.

With regards to not proving things - can I also point out that it has not been proven that invisible sand people inhabit the Sahara desert. Do you think there is the possibility that they might do so?

Has anybody suggested such a thing ?

Then how about giving some answers?
I'm still waiting for your comments on the invisible sand people.
Possible or not?

I tried Googling for evidence of all sorts of paranormal things. Spent a full day doing so. Found absolutely nothing worthwhile. Either my Google-fu is abysmal compared to yours, or the evidence isn't out there. I sincerely hope it's the former, but I expect it to be the latter.

The environment was already there Paj, I just posted into it.

My question was addressed to tandi and makes reference to comments she made.
I don't understand your question in the context of the original post. Please clarify.

Also - which D.S. member are you?
I get the feeling you didn't stumble across this forum/thread by accident.

I would ask, but I'm too arrogant.

I am.

Or perhaps you want something a little more widely believed?

Hollow Earth

Alien Abductions

UFO at Roswell

Fox Sisters and spiritualism were legitimate

Analog recorders pick up voices of the dead

Which of these shall we dismiss and which shall we accept as being no more possibly false than possibly true?

And by what criteria do you make the distinction?

Hi,

Why do you think that?

Generally that doesn't hold here. Which is why we suffer from alot of trolls, but if that say we don't know what we are talking about we try to produce proof. It's a little frustrating that they don't seem to hold themselvs to the same standard.

One thing is sure though, most people don't hold the >Person< in contempt, just the belive.

For instance, if you told me you belived in fairies at the bottom of your garden. I think I have the right to tell you that that is a silly thing to belive in, and ask you for proof of your fairies. that's how the community here functions.

Some beliefs deserve even more vitriol because they cause harm to the people who belive them. I don't hate those people just the belife, I just wish I could stop the people from being harmed.

I think this attitude is what ends up with the skeptics get banned from the other forums. They have the nerve to say a belife is silly and ask for proof.

Ok I'll shut up now, i think I got my point across.
O.

Okay.

Tandi:

I'm not asking you for evidence that what you experienced was in fact paranormal.

I'm asking you for specifics of the circumstances. From those, we may be able to determine some possible explanations that are mundane.

Nonsense.

I have the right to whatever emotions and attitudes I choose.

Whether or not those emotions and attitudes have validity is another question, but I have every right in the world to snort and snicker and deride.

Regardless who you think you are, you are not the arbiter of my rights.

Apparently it not only annoys you, it trumps any concern you have for the truth.

I have been annoyed by very many things and by very many people. Usually, I do not let that interfere with my objectivity.

As opposed to those who flip out over an attitude without caring for the facts expressed?

Ever thought about going out and getting some [evidence of the paranormal] for yourself?

Why do you assume we have not?

I used to be an ardent believer, having experienced some very convincing things myself.

It was precisely my search for evidence to prove the validity of my belief that led me to change positions.
