Alas...I did go a little far. Sorry, I know this isn't your beliefs. And, actually, I'm fairly certain that he was named "Dwight" after the the 19th Century evangelist D.L. Moody (founder of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago). Of course, I could be mis-remembering, but by "farily certain" I mean that I seem to recall seeing a letter from Ike where he wrote that his mother told him that "Dwight" was for D.L. Moody.

The rest of my rant, was just that: rant.

BTW: a book called First Mothers which essentially repeats my information about naming Ike "Dwight".
