Alright, This is a catchall thread for the debate tonight. Its in a few hours.

Thoughts before the debate:
1. The election has become about Sarah Palin, the VP candidate on one ticket. As silly as that is.
2. She's choked horribly several times recently.
3. There another guy at the debate, he seems as important as the role of Tree #4 in a grade school musical. Even the fricken moderator has generated more buzz than Joe Biden.
4. This might get higher ratings than the last presidential debate because of all the media hype about it. Sarah Palin has been a boon for the 24 hour news cycle.

I don't disagree with any of that. I just want to add that the reason Palin is the new IT girl is because we've had very little time to hear what she is all about. This debate may be our one and only chance to see how she works under pressure.

Or, we may get the same performance we got in her interviews and have just as many questions as ever.

If I was John McCain, I would have a press release about my plan to de-criminalize marijauna ready in case she blows it. He will have to change the media narrative in a major way. He and Obama appeared to be policy clones with mere nuance being the difference between them in their foreign policy debate. He has to shake things up if he wants to win in the wake of a Couric performance by Sarah.

Even though Sarah Palin is a moron it's still perfectly likely she'll muddle her way through this one. After all, George W. Bush got away with it -- twice! The expectations are so low, the format is so restricted, that she just needs to work one or two specific talking points into her otherwise empty verbiage. It's not like she's going to be compelled to follow up. Oh no, this is America.

I listened to part of the first debate, and I'm surprised Obama somehow reassured voters he's ready to be president. Both Kerry and Gore sounded more "presidential." A lot more. Since I'm an out-of-touch elitist, it's difficult to predict how Americans will react. Biden just needs to get through without saying anything monumentally stupid. By being the calm white male who has some idea of national and international politics (he can name supreme court cases, newspapers he reads), he has an opportunity to reinforce the emerging narrative (which should have been obvious at the beginning): McCain exercised poor judgment in tapping Palin. Not aware of her own ignorance, she accepted. Never mind Obama, her hard-core fan base scares me more than Ron Paul's.

[ct]Hair up? Hair Down (over her ears) ? [/CT]

She has failed soooooo many times in recent interviews that I would venture to say tonight is just another F.

Although the Alaska debate vids were decent...she didn't stick to the issues, but she attacked her debaters well. (if not by confusing them)

She will NOT get that over on Biden, he is well versed in the "art of war".

My prediction....Palin FAILS!

I can only imagine her prayers before jumping into the podium......"Please Jesus, help me not say another stupid thing on the TV.......and help me get thru the next 90 minutes without looking like an idiot."

Jesus replies, "Good luck with that Sarah".

You know, that might actually work.

Not sure it would work *enough*, but it could not fail to get him a lot of voters on both sides of the political spectrum.

Sorry, on a low-carb diet that excludes that. :P I'm eating celery instead.

Eeeek, celery AND listening to Palin? - Interrogation techniques comes to mind. :p
What about Beer?

Planning on firing up my new exercise bike in front of the TV, pedally furiously when I get frustrated. I watched the whole first presidential debate, made it to the end. This sounds bad, but I'm not sure I'll make it through this one. Although I'm interested, something about Palin's voice really grates on my nerves and it's difficult to listen to her. I had a similar problem with Reagan, although in that case it was his inflection that drove me nuts, rather than the timbre of his voice. I'm finding it really difficult to get around that voice & listen to the substance underneath (there is some, isn't there?).

Closed captions.

Hearing the stream of Obama surrogates play up the threat of Sarah Palin's amazing oratory skills is getting surreal.

No the election for those who enjoy following this stuff is now about palin.

For the regular voter I suspect less so

2. She's choked horribly several times recently.

She screwed up some soft questions. Horribly? Didn't look brilliant no but I wouldn't go as far as horribly.

3. There another guy at the debate, he seems as important as the role of Tree #4 in a grade school musical. Even the fricken moderator has generated more buzz than Joe Biden.

There are Biden attack adds. His roll is important in that he could screw up but assumeing he performs at his normal level and doesn't either risk or get a sucessful knockout blow then yeah it is likely to be mostly about palin.

Hmm Biden pulled 31K wikipedia page views yesterday against Palin's 91. Not too bad.

Questionable. I suspect there are a fair nbumber of people who watch the presidential debates whatever. Less so for the VP debate.

They're trying to raise the measure of success for Palin from Neanderthal to ealy modern man, that's all.

Can anyone recommend a good live feed? I don't have TV.

edit: Something besides CNN. I friggin hate their "perception analyzer".
