This was a great speech... It's 40 minutes long, but if you've wanted to hear a no nonsense speech about those with and those without faith in this country, this is it:

Please, lets do everything we can to get this man into office and begin to heal some of this divide that has been hurting this country for so long now. Donate money, time, and especially get out there and vote!

I started listening, highly skeptical (as is my wont). But dang, you are right. That speech was full of win.

I like the way he talked about faith and religion from a human perspective. He never talked about god himself, and never appealed to it.

He said he came to religion by choice, not by epiphany. That's a great line.
 
Obama won't heal anything. He talks about the big picture but his short senate record is that of a simple left leaning democrat partisan.

It doesn't take a stage magician to see through this illusion.

This is about as intelligent a statement as "At least that thar Gore ain't in the White House!!" as cover for all the things the Bush administration has messed up on. Your statement is on par with "It doesn't matter who wins, Bush or Gore, they are like... totally the same... dude."

We've seen that such simplistic thinking, while seemingly coming from a high and mighty/nothing you do can change nothin' stance is very rarely true. You have no idea what Obama can or can not do if he gets the presidency unless you yourself are now claiming magical powers. He can speak to people, believers and non-believers alike, in an intelligent manner without calling upon magic or mysticism to defend his ideas. He's the first politician who I've felt can speak on such a sensitive manner in an adult way. I doubt you actually watched the video clip, but I ask that not try to derail this thread. If you want to criticize a specific idea at least have the courtesy to quote and argue that rather than post overly simplistic blanket comments. Thank you.

Only if you define "simple left leaning democrat partisan" as anyone who doesn't rigidly toe the extremist line drawn by radical right-wingers such as Limbaugh and Coulter and their absolutist no-compromise ilk.

What impressed me about this speech (and I was very impressed) was the clarity and practicality of it.

And it's not just what he's saying here, but also his ability to say it so cogently, and his willingness to say it at all.

No other candidate could do that. Perhaps no other prominent American politician today could do that.

No one is going to win over the my-way-or-the-highway wingers, right or left. They support only those who agree with their view and brook no dissent.

But I don't know of anyone else who will likely do a better job of building consensus and easing the gridlock than Obama.

Or someone who looks at his voting record, his appearances on shows to explain his votes/positions pre-presidential run, and everything else empirical.

A person doesn't have to worship the adam's apple of Anne Coulter to see that Obama is just a partisan democrat who does a better job of not looking like one.

Are there any other fantasies you would like me to quash and have you get emotional and rebut with nonsense?

Edited to add: I heard the "im a uniter, not a divider" nonsense 8 years ago from another partisan clown. You remember him?

I disagree with corplinx.Obama has been a rather middle of the road senator whose main talent has been for getting himself a lot of media attention.
But his whole "Uniter,not a divider" ignores that fact that in the poisoness political atmosphere in the US...for whom I blame both parties and both left and right equally....a good third of the US people will hate Obama from the moment he is elected (assuming he is elected,which,IMHO is a big assumpiton) just as if McCain is elected one third of the US will hate him from day one.
But I agee some of the Obama idolatry is really getting silly.

No, I'll be satisfied if you quash my current one with some evidence rather than unsupported assertions. That would be sufficient.
