Mountain Lion Spotted Near Kentucky
Just one year ago a Bourbon County woman was surprised when she spotted a Mountain Lion on her property; another Mountain Lion has been spotted, just 35 miles away from the Kentucky border.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officers tracked the animal after it was treed by a dog and killed it.
To this day, no one knows where this Mountain Lion came from, but Kentucky Investigators believe it had once been held in captivity.
"There were some pretty good trail camera pictures of this one. We've been aware of this mountain lions travels now for several months,” Mark Marraccini with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife told LEX 18’s Joe Ducey.
The Mountain Lion was found in Humphrey’s County, Tennessee, just west of Nashville.
They believe the big cat wandered from South Dakota or Nebraska, crossing the Mississippi River in September.
This Mountain Lion does not appear to have ever been in captivity, which he says makes it less of a threat to humans because cats held in captivity can become desensitized to people.
"Mountain lions generally represent no threat to people. They're secretive, very reclusive and they don't like to be around where people are,” said Marraccini.
