US Officials Declare Eastern Cougar Extinct

Well the wildlife official (guy that answered the phone) at the SC DNR that Jodie's friend's dad's cousin talked to thinks so.

I figure the panthers hone their skills, first dashing between trucks flying across Alligator Alley, then up 75 towards Tampa, and by the time they get to Phoenix Valdosta, they're all ninja-like and ****.

I haven't heard back from SC DNR yet but really didn't expect too so soon after the storm. I have to ask, do why y'all think I would come on here and lie about seeing a cougar? I know I don't have any proof that I saw it but I don't think I've demonstrated any kind of lying behavior on here.

I believe you.

I have trouble believing you because you didn't say anything about the deer getting away when you first told the story.

I said something about the cougar still being around if it had just killed a deer.

Then the deer got away.

I also said something about following up.

Then you left town the next day.

To me, your story has gotten more detailed as questions were asked, with the details directed at the questions.

In my mind, that is a classic sign of a made up / mis-remembered tale.

This thread has been active for almost a year and could be easily seen in the General section right amongst the Bigfoot threads. But Jodie only mentioned her year-old cougar sighting just recently.

If you remember I mentioned seeing a cougar in my area because the discussion was about Cliff's cougar sighting. I didn't expect it to go viral in multiple threads like it did. I was only making a comment, I didn't think it was a big deal, at least it wasn't to me. A sign of lying in my experience is when the story never varies and sounds like recitation. You wouldn't necessarily catch that on a forum.

Well excuse me, I usually on look at my subscribed threads, or search using bigfoot as a tag. I didn't know the cougar thread existed.

You don't just go to General Skepticism and The Paranormal to find all the active bigfooty threads right there waiting for you? Haven't you also claimed that you're not comfortable using the Search function, but now it's an everyday feature of how you access the site?

I, too, have a hard time believing that you were ignorant of the eastern cougar thread, Jodie. How could you not know that it would be exceedingly rare to come across a cougar on the South Carolina coast? You also didn't just see one, you witnessed a Marty Stouffer moment unfolding a mere 15' away, in broad daylight (?), in a suburban backyard where multiple people were hanging out and at least one was smoking. Every one of those details would make the sighting less likely.

Lastly yes, the story morphing upon questioning has not exactly built my confidence in it's veracity.

It is a bit difficult to believe that you joined in 2012, saw a cougar in SC fairly recently, and haven't mentioned it here before.

Not impossible to believe, but...

When I sign on I hit quick links most of the time. If it looks like my subscribed threads are dying I put bigfoot as a tag in the search option. That's about the extent of my search skills here. So, no, I had no idea the cougar thread existed.

I really didn't think seeing a cougar was a big deal since my son saw one 16 years ago and I saw my coworker's game cam pic a few years before this incident. I also have plenty of co-workers that claim black panther sightings so I didn't think this was all that unusual. Why do you think I never went bigfoot hunting at night in my area back when I thought it existed? I was worried about cougars/panthers more than I was about running into a bigfoot. I know I stated that on the BFF more than once.

I wouldn't exactly call my friends back yard suburban, it's sitting next to a marsh on a dirt road and the houses are spread out. I don't call asking me questions and me explaining the details as a story that's morphing.

The topic didn't come up until someone linked the story discussing Cliff's cougar sighting.

Do you want to hear about my brother's bear sighting in downtown Columbia,SC? That was pretty noteworthy.

That was me. I was walking around Fivepoints, drunk as a skunk. I'm just big and hairy is all.

Yeah, but not in the downtown area. The DNR guy said that the males will wander south sometimes and you'll see them on rare occasions. This was just below my house, the bear was knocking over dead trees. My brother said all you could see were the trees falling as it went along it's way, but you couldn't hear any sound it made, or see what was causing it until you went to the edge of the bluff and looked down. We were both pretty shocked that a bear was that far south.

Yeah, they were old snags, I assume it was looking for termites or grubs.
