I think the farthest you could stretch it is US as "useful idiot" to ISIS, playing into a propaganda gambit that portrays ISIS as the force best able to fight the Infidel and the Great Satan (a version of how one can see OBL as winning the first decade of the War on Terror, drawing the US into entanglements in the ME that feed terrorism with new recruits motivated by the foreigners on their land)

But this is perhaps treating the premise too credibly..
