unifying gravity and electromagnetism

I will make the thought experiment simpler for you, can’t see you all struggle so much on that.
We can straight away discard the idea of constant speed of light using the same twin flight experiment. Imagine that a beam of light with velocity ‘C’ is shone towards the west. A west bound flight whose velocity is ‘0.2C’ will measure the velocity of light as only ‘0.8C’ unless its time gets dilated. Similarly the east bound flight with a velocity ‘0.2C’ will measure the speed of light as ‘1.2C’ unless its time runs faster. But we know that this was not the case from the above experiment.

I said just imagine.
Lack of simple imagination power is not a limitation (with reference to the crowd here)

You can't disprove Einstein's theory of relativity and the 100 years of experimental results supporting it by saying "just imagine". Einstein did similar thought experiments, but his had the added bonus of supporting math and a matching reality.

One thing that's missing from your thought experiment is how the flights are measuring the speed of light. If I'm not mistaken the Relativity of simultaneity will rear its ugly head and resolve the issues with a constant speed of light you imagine you've uncovered.

Let's say we're in a spaceship travelling about Warp 8, and we watch the stars streaming by, as we gaze out the window. The very fact that they stream slowly enough for us to actually watch it happening, even though we are moving faster than the speed of light: Doesn't that prove that the speed of light is variable?!

Except that they don't in reality, the speed of c is invariant with some small consideration for Heisenberg's uncertainty in the time/vector of the photons.

Guess what in reality c is invariant, regardless of what your imagination says.

A space ship traveling at .8 c will measure the speed of light as c, isn't that grand?

I can imagine all sorts of things that are wrong, just as you did in this post (i.e. lightspeed in a vacuum is invariant). So what's your point?

ETA: And where is the math behind your ideas?

According to quantum physics, particles pop in from nothing.
Hopefully an intelligent mind will pop in, out of the zero minds here.

Have fun talking to yourself here, drgsrinivas. If your goal was to convince people here, specifically physicists, that your ideas had a grain of merit, you have failed utterly.

Goodbye.

I'd like to know the source of your arrogance. Seriously, you have no real grasp about the subject matter, let alone enough to propose a thought experiment.

Fascinating.

So cute. Heh

Sheesh guys, he's probably just some kid. When I saw the thread title I said to myself Hello, what's this? then quickly saw that the guy didn't know much physics. He needs a bit of friendly advice rather than all this pulling-the-legs-off-flies stuff. Here, I'll give him some.

drgsrinivas, somebody challenged you to disprove the constancy of the speed of light. Take a look at this report on a super-accurate optical clock. It's so precise that you can see two of these clocks losing synchronisation when they're separated by only a foot of vertical elevation. Now take a look at wiki re time dilation, and note the bit that says consider a simple clock consisting of two mirrors A and B, between which a light pulse is bouncing. When you simplify those optical clocks to parallel-mirror light clocks, when they lose synchronisation this is what's happening:

|---------------|

|---------------|

The velocity c of light in vacuum is the same in all inertial reference frames. But you're in a room. You aren't in an inertial reference frame. You're in a non-inertial reference frame. Imagine those two light beams are racehorses. Are they going at the same speed?

Sheesh guys, he's probably just some kid.

Yeah, but no.

On his blog, he claims to be an "allopathic doctor". So he's (presumably) old enough to know how to engage in civil debate. He simply chooses to be an arrogant < insert epithet >.

I have formulated a theory that unifies gravity and electromagnetism.

It is this:

X = (6Y)Z

X is gravity, measured in whatever unit gravity is measured in.

Y is electromagnetic force measured in whatever unit electromagnetic force is measured in.

Z is a unit of gravity divided by a unit of electromagnetic force so that both sides of the equation are in the same type of units, whatever those happen to be.

Z is entirely fictitious but extremely useful, like the Higgs Boson or Gilmore Girls.

We can see that I am correct by engaging in the following thought experiment: Assume for the moment that I am correct.

I hope this clears everything up.

ETA: And where is the math behind your ideas?

PLEASE, stop teasing him. He has made it clear he is terrified of mathematics, perhaps due to a complete lack of competence, or maybe a vague understanding that it would demolish his strange notions.

It is like dangling a spider in front of an arachnophobe.

Stop being a bully.
