Not much information atm, just that five men have been arrested and explosives have been found in cars next to an airbase.

My first thought was russia escalating their hybrid war ◊◊◊◊ery, but according to BBC the base has also been used to launch attacks on Iran 'since March' (shamefully enough), so who TF knows.

RAF Fairford incident involves 'foreign actor', says Marco Rubio, as some evacuated residents return home

The secretary of state, who did not provide further details, was speaking to US media after five men arrested on suspicion of terror offences were released on bail.

Fortunately they must have had the drawbridge up at the “fort”.
"The arrest in the UK was fantastic," Trump told reporters, saying it was "an amazing job".
"We had them under investigation. They were looking to ‌do big damage to our fort and working with the British worked out great ... We had them under view for a long time, and we got them," Trump added.

The “fort” is RAF Fairford.

ETA: Ignore Trump’s boast of having them under observation/investigation “for a long time”.
First knowledge was when Gloucestershire Police intercepted them after a call from a local woman. Initially held under the Explosives Act and only then escalated to charges under the Terrorist Act.

Hilariously, the woman’s first call was to the MOD Police - which went unanswered.
She then raised the Gloucestershire Police by ringing the 999 emergency line. 😂

🚨Donald Trump claims he was personally responsible for the foiling of the RAF Fairford terrorist plot.

Donald Trump is a delusional and demented racist russian asset in clown make-up, a fright wig and incontinence pants, and an inveterate liar. Who gives a flying ◊◊◊◊ what he claims?

Also: I would wager that the decrepit bag of filth and corruption has not the faintest idea what or where an 'RAF Fairford' is, nor even what an 'RAF' is.

Also: I am unconvinced the he still has any functional idea of what an 'uk' is.

The worrying aspect of this for me at the moment is that it seems like these guys only got caught because they were so obviously suspicious that somebody called the police. Trump's bragging that they had been under surveillance for a long time sounds pretty hollow when they got as far as they did before being stopped.

There's zero chance it was anyone's plan to wait till they got to the airfield boundary in the middle of the night in their 3 vans, then pounce, then evacuate all the locals and send in bomb disposal robots to see what was in the vans.

The current summary on the BBC live coverage page.

  • A farmer who called 999 when she saw "a large group of hooded and masked men" near RAF Fairford early on Sunday morning has spoken to the BBC
  • The farmer tells the Today programme she was coming home late from a party when a road was blocked by "three white vans", which she called "suspicious"
  • She then saw the group of men run off, she says
  • The farmer says she called 999 at 01:36 BST. "Within 10 minutes the village was full of armed police. I think it was pure luck that I arrived in the village at a similar time to the vans"
  • The farmer says the authorities "dropped the ball" - although Defence Secretary Wes Streeting says she only has a "partial picture"
  • Gloucestershire Police say they were alerted at about 00:45 BST on Sunday. Five men remain in custody - they were arrested under the Explosives Act, and on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act
  • RAF Fairford, in the Cotswolds, is used by the US military. President Trump says the US had the five men "under view for a long time, and we got them"
  • There is clear inconsistency between Trump's comments and the farmer's detailed account, says our security correspondent Frank Gardner

This. I hate to say this, but we already know Dump is a buffoon, a toddler, and a compulsive liar, who also has an insatiable need to be the centre of attention. So maybe we don't need to stop and give him attention every single time he does it. Just silently acknowledge he tried to make this too all about himself, while making an utter fool of himself while doing so (as usual), and move on. It's the attempted terrorist attack that's the story here.

Sounds from that BBC summary like the local police were already aware before the farmer's 999 call, though it doesn't say whether they were alerted by some security agency which was following the men, or just by another member of the public.
  • The farmer says she called 999 at 01:36 BST.
  • Gloucestershire Police say they were alerted at about 00:45 BST on Sunday.

The person who phoned the police described "a large group" of men who ran off. I wonder if the 5 arrests means some got away.

Sad to note the BBC using USA propaganda: has recently been used by US warplanes as a staging post for defensive strikes on Iran.

British propaganda. That was the condition the British government used to allow strikes to take off from here - they were only for countering Iranian attacks. A rather fine distinction.

There is so much speculation online and on the news. I wish journalists, many of whom are just click baiters and the public would just learn to wait for reliable information.

As for sources of reliable information, the narcissistic man baby Americans have elected twice to be their President, is not one of them.

In their "what we know so far" article they put the word in quotes:

It was most recently used on 1 March, following a decision by former UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer to allow the US to use UK bases - including RAF Fairford - for "defensive" strikes on Iranian capabilities.
