UFO Spotted in China! Airport Shut Down!

Okay...

...now the Chinese news reports are saying that there wasn't anything spotted on radar...and "reflection off a high-flying plane" seems to be the prevalent explanation...

Please don't ask for that. :( The next thing you know Rocket Robin Hood Roger Ramjet will show up and we'll have 50 pages of misidentified blimps.

ROger Ramjet Is Our Man.
Hero Of Our Nation
For His Adventures Just Be Sure
To Stay Tuned To This Station.

IMHO, when at it's best, Ramjet was every bit as good as Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Sheeple! That is because the Chinese Government is In On the Big Cover Up!

So - just to make sure I have this clear - you (@Limbo) think that photos in this Daily Fail item
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worl...ing-alone.html
which were snapped on a compact camera and show a "walnut shaped" object (which looks for all the world like a party balloon) is depicting the same object the astronomers studying the corona during the eclipse described as "a bright spot, close to the sun and very likely the result of coronal activity"?

Seriously? I mean, obviously you really, really want it to be true, but for goodness sake take a step back and think about it for a moment.

Have you ever photographed, say, the planet Venus with a compact camera like that? How big was it in the picture? Could you resolve its crescent shape? No. Of course not. Far too small. So if the balloon-shape shown was resolved by that little happy-snappy camera, how large would the balloon have to be if it were "close to the sun"?

This looks worth following, but I don't expect to hear too much more about it. Still haven't heard from China about the UFOs they videotaped during the solar eclipse last year, have we? IIRC they promised a report to the international community...what's the frickin' holdup?

Gee that sure looks like the UFOs over Mexico during the '91 eclipse.

The embed is disabled so click on the open window and it will link to the video on the YT site. Skip to about minute 2.5:

PS Limbo, I don't know whether in your anxiety to discover the truth of what the Astronomers saw, you tried following the clues in your own and Astro's links. In case not, let me Google that for you:

Purple Mountain Observatory website:
English: http://159.226.71.1/English/index.htm
Chinese: http://www.pmo.ac.cn/

Bright spot near the sun shown circled: http://www.pmo.ac.cn/xwzx/twkx/200908/t20090827_2449896.html

Stick that last page through Google translator and it explains the "40 minutes" of observation. They set up a string of 15 observatories under the track of the eclipse, so that they could continuously observe it for a full 40 minutes as it crossed China. Unfortunately due to cloud cover they only observed at 11 sites, but still accumulated data for over 30 minutes.

Of the bright spot itself they say "Figure One is the joint project by the players were photographed in Zhejiang Tianhuangping crown within the clear picture, is worth noting that the photo clearly shows a small white light point, this highlights the physical nature of need in conjunction with other telescopes (eg HINODE and STEREO) of the observed data can eventually figure out." (or at least that's what Google makes of the text).

I think it's fair to say this doesn't appear to be the same object as depicted in the Daily Fail.

If the UFO phenomenon is legitimate (it is), then governments know that and are withholding that. Why would they do that, you ask? Perhaps they worry abot social destabilization.

Now you are speculating with the standard UFO mantra. Can you present any evidence that the government has ever been concerned about "social destabilization" because of UFOs? The key word is "IF". You have no proof the government is withholding anything on purpose. Sure, certain items were classified for OTHER reasons but not to hide "proof" that UFO reports are anything more than simple misidentifications. The US and UK governments have released thousands of documents relating to UFOs. Dr. David Clark has been very involved in the release of the MOD's records. There were no smoking guns there either.

This has to do with cooperation and transparency. I assume the next retort will be that we are not seeing the "real" documents about UFOs. So far, the documentation we have indicates nobody knew exactly what produces ALL UFO reports but the most likely source seems to be eyewitness perception issues.

No, they collide with my direct empirical observations. Several of them.

Direct empirical observations????

Are these observations tainted by your own beliefs or can you demonstrate they are FACTUAL (i.e. can not be disputed).

That's once.

That's twice.

Don't anyone invoke his name a third time or you know what will happen. We'll have to prove this is something mundane or it will be a UFAO for sure and then we'll be treated to 276 links of other UFAOs, each of which we'll have to individually prove to be mundane.

China?? Maybe this has some to do with the mysterious Orb...the UFO, (Unearthed Foreign Object) that Chinese laborers uncovered in Northren California and was shortly thereafter stolen by John Bly................
Let's see if anybody else gets this arcane Sci Fi reference.

It's Mao's reincarnation descending from the sky. This fits with all explanations given.

You are going to have offer up some evidence in addition to your "empirical observations". And lots of it.

If I wanted to convince JREF 'skeptics', sure. But it isn't really about me giving you link after link after link in a futile effort to convince the unconvincable. I might as well go try to convince YEC that the earth is old.

No, it's about pathological levels of skepticism and willful ignorance. So you are on your own. There is evidence out there, so go figure it out for yourself if you can.

Have you seen this?

Podesta’s reversal on UFOs is mystifying

No they aren't tainted but how, pray tell, do you expect me to demonstrate that????

Thanks for the link. I hope that puts an end to that story. I guess the astronomer wasn't lying after all.

Why would it put an end to that story? It seems to be saying that as of July 23, 2009 they haven't yet figured it out. I'm looking forward to when they do. Should be soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

"...it is noteworthy that the photo is clearly visible a small white light point, this highlights the physical nature of need in conjunction with other telescopes (eg HINODE and STEREO) of the observed data can eventually figure out."

"Eyewitness perception issues." Ha ha ha

My friend Rick and I didn't have any 'issues' perceiving the large UFO that flew right over our fracking heads. We perceived it just fine, thank you very much. I don't care if you believe that or not.

I don't know what the nature of the UFO phenomenon is, and I don't know what produces ALL UFO reports. I have my guesses about all that but I know that the phenomenon is legit, and I strongly suspect that governments know that too. They probably think they know what the true nature of the UFO phenomenon is, namely biological aliens from another planet who fly through interstellar space in nuts 'n' bolts spaceships.

If you point to a specific case and ask me if it was a "real UFO", I will say I don't know. If you ask me what they are I will say I don't know. Most people would say biological aliens but I won't say that yet. I don't think the 'ET hypothesis', as it is typically conceived of, is likely. All I will say is that the sort of mundane explanations that clueless skeptics like you put forward don't apply to 100% of sightings, because they don't apply to MY sightings. I know because I was there, unlike you.

Have you seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Imagine yourself as a character in that movie, and you are trying to explain to the main character that his "encounters" were tainted by his beliefs or he had "perception issues" and that there is no evidence blah blah blah. Then imagine how clueless you would look to the audience and to the main character.

That is how clueless you look to me.

Heh, I like this. "I can't provide any evidence, but there's evidence out there, so why don't you go look at it?" And he thinks we're the ones on our own. No, sadly it's you that's on your own, Limbo. On your own in a bizarre little world where everything you see takes on strange new form, filtered through the prism of that one book on Jung you once half-read.
