U.S. Border and Immigration

Always remember: this nation is built on stolen land. We have no right to deny others the same opportunity as our ancestors. Migration is a guaranteed right under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
I suspect that the First Nations might object to you offering up their remaining tribal lands to be stolen by immigrants.

Trump is ordering congressional republicans to vote against a border security bill so that he can have a campaign issue.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Just Took His War With the Feds to the Next Level

Even a ruling from the nation’s highest court doesn’t seem to be enough to deter Texas’s governor from fooling around at the border.

On Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott amped the situation up a notch, declaring the influx of immigrants over the border an “invasion”—a status that Abbott claimed supersedes federal mandates—while shipping more members of the Texas National Guard to erect more concertina wire along the Rio Grande section of the U.S.-Mexico border

I don't know about Texas, but in California people are supposed to be allowed access to waterways and bodies of water. Is the Rio Grande off limits to Texans? Will citizens be arrested for trying to get there?

I'm wondering what happens the first time some legal, documented Texans get sliced to ribbons by that razor-wire.

Biden needs to federalize the TX National Guard. The Supreme Court cannot be ignored by a governor or it means nothing. I 100% disagreed with the SC on Roe v Wade but I would not agree with ignoring their ruling. If allowed to be ignored, it's worthless along with our entire judicial system.

Statement from President Joe Biden On the Bipartisan Senate Border Security Negotiations

For too long, we all know the border’s been broken.
It’s long past time to fix it.

That’s why two months ago, I instructed my team to begin negotiations with a bipartisan group of Senators to seriously, and finally, address the border crisis. For weeks now that’s what they’ve done. Working around the clock, through the holidays, and over weekends.

Let’s be clear.

What’s been negotiated would – if passed into law – be the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we’ve ever had in our country.

The "problem" with the border stems from a) the closing up of legal routes for asylum seekers, b) the cutting of numbers of seasonal visas for workers in various jobs that are only required seasonally and c) stop *********** up the countries immigrants are coming from. Fix the problems with the pathways for immigration (especially for non-WASPS) and the border problems will lessen.

Let's have a peek at this "border security" bill Joe "Pedo Peter" Biden is referring to.

From CNN.

Under the soon-to-be-released package, the Department of Homeland Security would be granted new emergency authority to shut down the border if daily average migrant encounters reach 4,000 over a one-week span
After 28,000 illegals try to cross the border in a one week period(that would be a 1.5 million yearly rate), the DHS would be granted the authority to "close" the border if they want to. If.

If migrant crossings increase above 5,000 on average per day on a given week, DHS would be required to close the border to migrants crossing illegally not entering at ports of entry.
That is a yearly rate of 1.5 million before any action is taken.

Certain migrants would be allowed to stay if they prove to be fleeing torture or persecution in their countries.
No, this won't be abused at all just like the current asylum laws are not being abused.

Moreover, if crossings exceed 8,500 in a single day, DHS would be required to close the border to migrants illegally crossing the border.
Why not close it before anyone crosses?

Ah, yes...the BIPARTISAN bill....

I'm still interested in what you think of Trump's "Presidents must have full immunity, even if they cross the line" claim.

**** bipartisan bill is ****.

I don't think much about anything Trump says, never have, never will. I'm more interested in what he does. His border policy during his first term was extremely underwhelming. But compared to what the current idiot has done, I will vote for him again and hope for the best.

a few things to note:

1) The border does not automatically get reset every week. DHS keeps the border "closed" to migration until the number of engagements is below 75% of the cut-off for 3 straight weeks

2) It does not address the actual causes of people braving the dangers of coming here

The big problem that the bill must cover is the housing of the people being processed. Trump's prison camps sound like the ideal solution for MAGA. Fly them directly out of the camp to be built straight back to Guatemala?

But in any case, whether kids in cages or NY City's somewhat humane tent cities housing temporarily, it is all going to cost something.

Trump said terrorists have been crossing the border. We need legislation to shut it down. Trump opposes legislation to shut down the border. He is a crazy man.

The legislation he's opposing right now would not shut down the border.

Yes it would. It is the most conservative immigration legislation in modern times. We need to secure the border.

The far-right want a completely open border while demonising anybody who crosses it. Where else are they going to find their slave labour and hold onto them until starvation?

You seem to be confused by the difference between conservative voters and corporate interests. They aren't the same.

ya, corporations can at least be counted on to work in self-interest. Right-wingers won't even do that much. They just work out of spite.

Modern conservatism is not a coherent philosophy or ideology. they don't have principals or tangible goals, no higher thinking. It is just a succession of reactions.
