Merged Two Mosques to be built near Ground Zero

BTw, here's another one you might not want to answer.

Does anyone know what "LA ILLAH ILLA ALLAH" mean?

It's posted on the website of those who want to build the mosq. http://www.masjidmanhattan.com/

Let me answer for you: It happens to mean "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah"

Inclusive, isn't it?

I do seem to remember that the first commandment sounds similar, however. I presume there are Christian churches somewhat near ground zero.

The only reason why they would consider NOT allowing the mosques there is if they fear some sort of reprisal. Otherwise I see no reason, aside from emotional ones, NOT to allow the construction.

Religious buildings are offensive no matter what religion they're from.

(EDIT: For some reason I forgot I had already posted in response to Pardalis a short while back)

It still gives me an opportunity to point out that Pardalis was also wrong about that being the website of the people behind the building of a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero. They're not. That's the website of people who already have a mosque, four blocks from Ground Zero, and have have had it for forty years (they've been there since before the WTC even opened). They currently have a disclaimer on their home page making that clear, though I don't believe it was there at the time Pardalis made his post back in May.

This is the website of the Cordoba Initiative, the people who are behind the "Ground Zero mosque".

And while Pardalis was quoting stuff from the Masjid Manhattan site, he apparently decided this little tidbit off their home page (that was there when he made his original post back in May) wasn't worth mentioning in his attempt to twist the Shahada from their site:

"Masjid Manhattan and its members condemn any type of terrorist acts. In particular, the attacks of 9/11 where non-Muslims as well as Muslims lost their lives. Islam always invites for peace; therefore Islam is not responsible for the actions of some ill individuals who, independently from what Islam advocates, have hatred against humanity. As Muslims and as Americans, we will never forget the beloved ones who perished that terrible day of September 11, 2001." (all emphasis in original)

The Republicans will squeeze every ounce of juice out of such an outrage come any election.

The election two years from now? I'd like to think they'll be able to manufacture outrage over something else by then - or, better yet, have actual positions to run on instead of fanning the flames of their base's hate.

that should not upset christians or jews, since 'allah' is 'yhwh', the god of abraham and moses.
so, your point seems moot.

wait....so Mosques should be forbidden cause' Islam ain't very inclusive?

there are parts of the NT that state that those who are not for Christ, and the anti-Christ.

what does God say in the 1st Commandment? "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me".

and every morning, every Orthodox and some Conservative Jewish men says the following prayer: "I thank God I was not born a slave, a Gentile, or a woman".

I guess we should ban all new churches and synagogues.

I think it's insensitive for you to build this thread so close to all the other "GZ mosque" threads.

This thread is for open opinions. By all means share your opinions, because this "Mosque" thing is getting to be a rather "touchy" subject.

Sensible reasons someone might have an opinion on this:

- You intend to use the facility
- You are considering contributing money to build it
- You live on the block, and might be impacted by its presence

Since I don't fall into any of those categories, it's neither a good idea nor a bad idea to me.

(Actually, I may be a user if they have lecture series or similar, and there's a topic of interest to me -- such as at the 92nd St Y. But I still don't have an opinion.)

I think its a horrible, terrible, offensive, disgusting, and pathetic idea. I am horrified by it.

But I respect property rights and Freedom of Religion, so they are more than welcome to build it right there.

Folks have the right to beg and demand that it not be built there. But government has NO place in this matter. None whatsoever.

I like your opinion, very open minded. :)
