• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Twitter has started blocking unregistered users

My favourite theory is that Musk sacked all the people who do any work, and only kept the fawning sycophants.

First sign of any technical problem and the whole organisation performs a spectacular 'B - Ark' manouvre.

I'm stunned that there are any people left who are willing to praise Musk at all after that appalling 'pedo' put down because the divers didn't want to use Musk's botched together underwater coffin.

Helpful, thank you.
You are closer to the intricacies, I just like to see Jordan Peterson, and other common sensers being replatformed. I am a simple soul.

I think it is fine to want less moderation and to argue that if Elon Musk increases the amount of tolerance for what is said on the platform then he could be said to have improved the platform.

BUT,….

As I said early on, in another thread, you almost always have to make choices on a noise to signal ratio. If you open up freedom of expression to the point where you allow harassment on the platform or explicit porn, or extreme real-life violence and gore then your platform is going to end up like 4Chan. That’s not attractive to posters who want to put up informative or considered opinions. So they are likely to leave. Similarly advertisers usually don’t want to be associated with that kind of stuff. Musk seems to have taken the platform more in that direction while also applying some apparently arbitrary rules of his own about moderation (keeping Alex Jones off the platform because of Sandy Hook, kicking Kanye off for him posting a swastika, taking down news stories at the behest of governments of India and Indonesia, etc… and now also saying that the word “cis” will be considered a form of harassment in some cases). I don’t have a problem with people applying any form of moderation they want, but I don’t see much consistency in his stated claims of having a free-speech platform. Indeed, he even seems to concede that what many people claimed was shadow-banning was still in effect under Musk and even a stated policy. To be honest, I consider it a reasonable and necessary step to reduce the impact of low-information posts that are merely insulting or uncivil. But he’s also undermined this by having a paid reach-boosting blue-check subscription meaning that people get boosted just by paying to propagate their crypto scams, etc….

As for JBP, however interesting or common sense he may have once been he’s descended into crazy randomly angry Boomer territory. He was never banned. He was just asked to delete his post about Elliot Gould and his “criminal” physicians.

He’s now calling for criminal physicians to be dropped into the sea with millstones around their necks. :o

It seems that the restrictions have changed
I can view as many tweets as I want and like and share them but I can't post anything or reply after 20 minutes of replying to some posts and threads.
Same happened yesterday.

I just got a new message
I tried to like a post and got the response that it looked like an automated action and was being blocked to protect posters from spam.

Yep, I'm getting that too. Admittedly I had just liked about fifty posts calling Dan Wooton a lying bastard.

Supporting Billionaires 101:

1. When the billionaire emerges into public recognition by becoming involved in politics or in a public-facing business, they bring along two different narratives: "How they treat their friends" and "How they treat their employees."

2. Well-known media personalities are among those friends, so that is the narrative that will predominate at first. The other will be underplayed as the product of false rumors, envy, and the unjustifiably disgruntled.

3. Supporters support, in the subconscious hope of eventually being treated like one of the friends.

4. Supporters, customers, and the general public get treated like employees. Big surprise!

Not true. The other main group of people left are on work visa's.

I deactivated my Twitter account back in February and nothing I've seen since - this latest nonsense in particular - has caused me to regret that decision.

Re-joined with a throwaway account - wondering how much of this slowdown is caused by rubbernecking similar to a car crash on the motorway

As a non-member still can't see anything but a "log in or create a new account" page.

Are you using a PC or a mobile app to try and view?

I read it was just the web version that did that, but I wouldn't actually know if an app lets you use it without an account.

It's almost hard to believe that a year ago Twitter was humming right along, fully solvent despite a some ten times larger payroll to cover, and with comparatively few technical issues besides; but it's the truth.

Just be glad we're not living in his Mars colony, and trying to figure out how to cope with a suddenly announced 6,000 breaths/day oxygen usage policy.
