It's like declassifying documents. He just had to think about it.Did he actually run a policy of death penalty for drug dealers? Or was he just rambling incoherantly.

You have to admit that this is a delicious development. I mean, it throws so many clanging monkey wrenches into the mix. Should be entertaining, at the very least.
Yeah. And he does not even want to bring them to trial.
He has been proposing that for years.
What gets to me is he is not even a clever liar. His lies are so damn easy to expose.
His sycophants don't care if his lies are exposed.
Seems to be an undue amount of handwringing in this thread over Trump’s announcement.
Trumpism was soundly rejected at the ballot box this election cycle and Trump continues to be a reviled figure. There’s no realistic scenario that puts him back in office. The only result of him running again will be the further immolation of the Republican Party, which will be delightful to watch.
Get your popcorn out, folks. This is going to be fun.
Well, that's a thing that happened. He's running again.

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday filed his paperwork establishing his candidacy to run for the presidency again in 2024.
I think Trump's candidacy will be harmful to the republicans, and he has a very low chance of winning the presidency.Seems to be an undue amount of handwringing in this thread over Trump’s announcement.

I think it is justified...The American polity has a tendency to surprise....often not in a good way.

But, its like russian roulette... you can't completely dismiss the risks, because if Trump happens to win, it will be incredibly bad for the U.S. (and the world as a whole).
Continued economic problems, a few more republican states passing voter suppression laws, some scandal involving biden (or alternatively a democratic primary that sees an unpopular leader win) all happening at the same time might allow Stubby McBonespurs to win again.
How will this impact any potential upcoming indictments? The DoJ does have a policy of not interfering in elections. They could simply back off and not charge him, they could appoint a special council, or they could just go ahead and charge him like normal. (I hope they do charge him... he has broken too many crimes to just let things go, and appointing a special council to handle things will just add unnecessary delay)

I seriously doubt that announcing your candidacy for president is some kind of loophole to avoid criminal indictment. Trump remains a private citizen and the investigations he is under will continue unabated.
